Virtual tour of Amazon

Year 10 business students enjoyed an hour of exploring the huge Manchester fulfilment centre (MAN1) during Module 2.

Hannah and Adam took 70 students around the amazing facilities virtually, highlighting the key stages in the Amazon process. We looked at the use of technology and staffing needs for this multinational business. A number of Leigh Academy student questions were answered in an informative Q&A session at the end.

The Amazon crew outlined key factors affecting businesses such as theirs and it all ties in with the Unit 2 work our business students are completing.

Exam preparation and Business project time

BTEC Year 12 students are ready for their first taste of the Marketing exam - 3 hours producing a suitable plan for an exciting and relevant business opportunity. Year 13 students are bracing for their last crack at the BTEC Business Finance exam in January.

Alongside them, our Year 12 and 13 LIBF Finance students have been busy gearing up for the gruelling January exam session, whereby they respond to a series of multiple choice questions, in a high pressure timed environment; followed by the 2 hour written exam, responding to case studies materials and proving their writing quality.

This year the case studies have our Post-16 exploring the impact of personal finances on insurance choices - pertinent for our newly qualified drivers - as well as the pervasive impact of inflation on financial sustainability. I am optimistic about reporting the exam results in February, and I’ve enjoyed seeing how our young minds are engaged with these important issues, and how they are making connections between people in situations such as theirs.

The IB Business Management project first drafts, were due this week and we’ve seen a real depth in the analysis of some of our year 13 students when responding to this demanding task.
