activities

Huge shout out to all of our activities that have had a chance to be showcased over the last couple of weeks. Our Spirit squads rocked the house at yesterday's football game and our Marching Band did an awesome job with their first performance at halftime. eSports has their first online scrimmage and our Mountain Bike Team kick things off this weekend in Steamboat!

Here are just a few shots from this week.

Senior seminar

A course titled “Seminar” has been added to the schedule of every senior. This course is designed to ease some of the stress seniors may experience during their final year of high school. Seniors will have four meetings during the first semester with their counselor during their off-block in a small classroom setting. Additionally, students will be completing online components of work that satisfy the state-mandated ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) without disrupting their current class schedule. Additional information can be found in this letter to seniors and their households. Seniors should regularly check their Jeffco Gmail for updates related to the course.

Anti-bullying assembly

On Tuesday, RV will host the No Hate Tour, an anti-bullying assembly featuring BMX athletes.

"The No Hate High School Tour, now in its 21st year, is an incredibly impactful educational program that uses the energy and excitement of action sports to deliver critical bullying prevention tools, techniques and information to students in a relatable, peer-to-peer manner.

The program features top BMX and skateboard pros that teens admire performing high-energy action sports shows on campus while speaking to the students about their own experiences with bullying (both online and offline), overcoming obstacles, being an ally, inclusion, kindness, surrounding yourself with positive influences, problem solving, and other important subjects that really resonate with teens." https://asahighschooltour.com/tour-info

We are really excited to host this event for our students and know that it will impact them in a positive way!

Public Health Order - COVID Testing Room

Ralston Valley will be home to one of JCPH's COVID testing rooms. It will be open five days a week. Testing is required for unvaccinated students that are participating in extracurricular activities that are currently taking place after school. If a student has not turned in their proof of vaccination, required testing begins the week of September 13th.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, RV’s testing room will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the testing room will be open from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Students at school can enter the Mezzanine to test on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays by going through either gym to the north stairwell that will lead to the registration table. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will use room R2206 for testing.

Each room has an exterior door on the Northside of the school that students can use to enter the building for privacy. Entrances are labeled with yellow arrows on the map.

Students will need a consent form filled out prior to the first test. You can electronically fill out the consent form at this link.

You may prefer to have your student test at an alternative location like Walgreens, King Soopers, CovidCheckCO, or your family physician. All are acceptable. All your student needs to do is provide formal documentation from the test provider that shows a negative test result for that week. Please know that at-home tests will not be accepted.

Mask Up!

Please help us by reminding your student(s) to bring and wear their mask correctly while at school. Completely covering their nose and mouth will help us foster a positive culture, keep all students in school, avoid quarantines, and keep our students and staff healthy! Thank you! #BetterTogether

Mental Health Support

Did you know that there is a robust collection of mental health resources on the Counseling Department’s website? To find them, go to the RVHS homepage, click on Counseling & Registrar, and select Social/Emotional Resources.

In addition to the resources on the Counseling website, it is also the best place to locate Counselors' contact information. On the homepage, you will find our phone numbers, emails, and how to set up an appointment with us. Our doors are always open virtually and in person.

Medication and Self Screening

A few reminders, please screen or have your students self-screen for any COVID symptoms before sending students to school. Please contact me (Brittney.Wagner@jeffco.k12.co.us) for any student with a positive COVID test. If your student will be taking any medication at school, please complete the medication agreement form, have your doctor sign, and return to the nurse (this is also for any over-the-counter medications).

Please also continue to send state allergy, asthma, and seizure plans to myself or our health aide (michelle.hanson@jeffco.k12.co.us) in the main office. If your student has any new or existing health concerns that require a health plan, please contact the nurse so that we can get a health plan in place for your student at school.

I have included the link for the Jeffco Health Services Website which has the necessary forms to complete for medications at school.

athletics

We are excited to announce two new coaches that will be supporting our student-athletes this year. The first is our new Head Women's Swim and Dive Coach, Savannah Payne. Most recently, Coach Payne supported Mustang swimmers during pre-season training before the 2020-2021 season. Prior to that, she served as the Head Girls Swimming Coach at Lakewood High School. Coach Payne swam four years in high school and was a walk-on for the University of Wyoming Swim Team, finishing her swimming career at California State University Hayward. She earned a spot on the traveling team and competed in the 200 Butterfly and 500 freestyle at the Long Beach Conference Championships. Earning her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Wyoming in 2009, Coach Payne completed a Post- Baccalaureate program at Metropolitan State College of Denver with an Elementary Education License. The following year, she earned an M.A. from the University of Northern Colorado in Educational Psychology, and a second M.A. from Palo Alto University in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Cultural Diversity. Coach Payne is married to her husband Jacob and has one son Henry, who enjoys time at the pool as well. Coach Payne will host a informational meeting to introduce herself and share specifics for the season on September 16th at 5:30pm in the auditorium.

Additionally, Steve Annest will be stepping into the head boy's lacrosse role after serving as the defensive coordinator at RV for the last four years. He first began coaching lacrosse at Columbine High School in 1999 and has also coached youth lacrosse for many years. Having grown up in Vestal, NY, he played both football and lacrosse and was captain of both teams his senior year receiving all-conference honors. He initially attended Ithaca College and played lacrosse for the Bombers before transferring and finishing at Colorado State University. Coach Annest has been married to his wife Nicole for 25 years and they have two daughters, Ella, 23, who recently graduated from the University of California Berkeley where she played lacrosse; and Mari, 20, who is currently a junior at Northwestern University and a member of NU’s soccer team.
