Happenings Around Ralston Valley

Trunk or Treat Street - National Honor Society is excited to announce the return of Trick or Treat Street. This year it has been moved outside to the east lot. Between clubs, activities and athletics we have nearly 30 different Ralston Valley groups hosting a trunk this year.

State Bound!!!

Congratulations to our Marching Band for their performance at Monday's Regional Competition. They will be heading down to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to compete at the Colorado Band Master's State Championship Next weekend. Good Luck!

Also State Bound are 20 members of Ralston Valley's Mountain Bike Team. They are competing this weekend in Durango. Good luck to all of our riders.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights we were treated to our first full in-person and indoor choir concert in nearly two years. Our choirs showcased their talents for family, friends, and the community. Such beautiful voices. Thank you Mrs. Laun for leading such a magical couple of nights.

Students in Mrs. Martin's 3rd Block Chemistry class testing different compounds and recording their observations when burned.

Derrick Fifer created these two awesome photos in our Photography 1 Class. Their quest this week was to take tiny Matchbox Cars and make them look life-sized using various props from around the campus. Students had to think outside the box to plan their photos.

Student Success Center

Academic Skills Support

We have seen tremendous success with students who have attended the Student Success Center to receive support from Mrs. Tate and our classroom teachers. From organizing binders/backpacks, tracking missing assignments, emailing teachers, prioritizing assignments, and completing work, students have improved their skills and watched their grades improve. If your child could benefit from this support, please encourage them to attend the SSC in room L1101 during their off block. All students are welcome!

Attendance in the Student Success Center

All students earning 2 or more “F's” in any class are required to attend support in the Student Success Center, room L1101, during their off-block. Students will receive support from an Intervention Specialist and classroom teachers around academic skills to help them improve their habits and grades. Attendance will be taken and monitored by grade-level administrators. You will receive notification on Friday if your student is required to attend the following week.

I.C.E. Support

Attendance During I.C.E.

All students are welcomed and encouraged to receive content-related assistance from teachers during I.C.E. All students earning a “D” or an “F” in any class are required to attend I.C.E. according to the schedule below. A course titled “Tutorial” connected to the teachers of a student has been added to their schedule. When a student is expected to attend I.C.E., attendance will be taken and families notified of absences.

Pre-arranged Absences

Absences of three or more days of school require a "Pre-Arranged Absence" Form. Criteria for approval are listed on the form. This form is available in the Attendance Office or the Counseling Website.

These absences include any absences not specifically covered by another section of the Conduct Code, such as family vacations,

college visits, or other extended absences to be excused per Jeffco district policy.

Halloween at RVHS

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Ralston Valley High School allows students who would like to dress up for Halloween to do so, however, students and families are reminded that NO costume masks and NO face painting are permitted. School personnel must be able to identify students and obstructing the face is not allowed. Students and staff are expected to maintain compliance with the current public health order by wearing face masks.

When choosing a costume, the school dress code still applies. No weapons (fake, or real) may be used as part of the costume.

COVID Testing Room

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the testing room will be open from 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. moving forward. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, RV’s testing room will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Each room has an exterior door on the Northside of the school that students can use to enter the building for privacy. Entrances are labeled with yellow arrows on the map.

Students will need a consent form filled out prior to the first test. You can electronically fill out the consent form at this link. If the consent was filled out for testing last week, your student will be good for the remainder of the year.

You may prefer to have your student test at an alternative location like Walgreens, King Soopers, CovidCheckCO, or your family physician. All are acceptable. All your student needs to do is provide formal documentation from the test provider that shows a negative test result for that week. Please know that at-home tests will not be accepted.

Medication and Self Screening

A few reminders, please screen or have your students self-screen for any COVID symptoms before sending students to school. Please contact me (Kristie.Charron@jeffco.k12.co.us) for any student with a positive COVID test. If your student will be taking any medication at school, please complete the medication agreement form, have your doctor sign, and return to the nurse (this is also for any over-the-counter medications).

Please also continue to send state allergy, asthma, and seizure plans to myself or our health aide (michelle.hanson@jeffco.k12.co.us) in the main office. If your student has any new or existing health concerns that require a health plan, please contact the nurse so that we can get a health plan in place for your student at school.

I have included the link for the Jeffco Health Services Website which has the necessary forms to complete for medications at school.

Mask Up!

Please help us by reminding your student(s) to bring and wear their mask correctly while at school. Completely covering their nose and mouth will help us foster a positive culture, keep all students in school, avoid quarantines, and keep our students and staff healthy! Thank you! #BetterTogether

Mental Health Support

Did you know that there is a robust collection of mental health resources on the Counseling Department’s website? To find them, go to the RVHS homepage, click on Counseling & Registrar, and select Social/Emotional Resources.

In addition to the resources on the Counseling website, it is also the best place to locate Counselors' contact information. On the homepage, you will find our phone numbers, emails, and how to set up an appointment with us. Our doors are always open virtually and in person.

Chromebook Charging Cord Tips & Care

Only use the school-issued Chromebook charging cords with school Chromebooks to avoid costly damage. Many other type-C laptop cords use a higher wattage and can damage the Chromebook's motherboard, which requires an expensive repair. Need a new charger? You can buy a brand new Lenovo Chromebook charger at the RVHS library for $27.

Charging Cord Care Tips

  • Avoid tightly wrapping the cord. This adds strain on the internal wires and can cause bending and breakage.

  • Don't transport the cord in the same backpack compartment as heavy items like books and binders which can crush, pinch, or damage the wires and the transformer block.

  • Ensure the transformer (block in the middle of the cord) has room to breathe whenever plugged in so it doesn't overheat.

  • Always gently remove the charger by pulling on the tip, not the cord. Yanking the charger out by the cord can damage the tip (which results in charger failure) or worse, dislodges the internal charging port on the Chromebook itself, which is a costly repair.
