The Jeffco League Spirit Invite is this coming Wednesday at Arvada West High School. Both our Dance and Cheer teams will be competing for League titles. Last week, our Cheer team competed in Douglas County and received a score that qualified them for UCA Nationals in Orlando. Our Dance Team qualified earlier this year for the UDA Nationals in Orlando as well.

The return of this year's Area Choir Festival brought together students from Ralston Valley and our feeder schools. The students performed in front of a packed house in the Mustang Range. The work that is being done in our feeder schools with vocal music is truly second to none. Thank you to all of our area schools for filling to school with music.

Congratulations to RVHS German student, Lauren Guo, who has made it to the national finals of the Internationale Deutscholympiade (IDO), an international German language competition. In December, Lauren will be flown to Chicago to compete against 15 other German students from the US. Two of them will go on to the summer international finals at the Goethe-Institut in Hamburg, Germany. We wish Lauren viel Glück!

November is National Gratitude Month

Research has shown that gratitude can enhance moods, decrease stress, and improve overall health and wellbeing. Celebrate the month with your family by:

  1. Sharing your gratitude with others. Letting someone know you're grateful for them can lift their spirit or lift a burden.

  2. Showing your appreciation by giving back to your community.

  3. Starting a family gratitude journal. Read aloud and reflect on your relationships and their accomplishments.

College Fair

Nearly 50 Colleges and Universities filled our gym on Thursday night for the CCHS/CR College Fair. Schools came from around the State and the country to meet with prospective students. A few hundred students from around the area were able to meet with reps from each school and gain valuable information to help them determine their post-secondary plans.

Student Success Center

Academic Skills Support

We have seen tremendous success with students who have attended the Student Success Center to receive support from Mrs. Tate and our classroom teachers. From organizing binders/backpacks, tracking missing assignments, emailing teachers, prioritizing assignments, and completing work, students have improved their skills and watched their grades improve. If your child could benefit from this support, please encourage them to attend the SSC in room L1101 during their off block. All students are welcome!

Attendance in the Student Success Center

All students earning 2 or more “F's” in any class are required to attend support in the Student Success Center, room L1101, during their off-block. Students will receive support from an Intervention Specialist and classroom teachers around academic skills to help them improve their habits and grades. Attendance will be taken and monitored by grade-level administrators. You will receive notification on Friday if your student is required to attend the following week.

I.C.E. Support

Attendance During I.C.E.

All students are welcomed and encouraged to receive content-related assistance from teachers during I.C.E. All students earning a “D” or an “F” in any class are required to attend I.C.E. according to the schedule below. A course titled “Tutorial” connected to the teachers of a student has been added to their schedule. When a student is expected to attend I.C.E., attendance will be taken and families notified of absences.

Pre-arranged Absences

Absences of three or more days of school require a "Pre-Arranged Absence" Form. Criteria for approval are listed on the form. This form is available in the Attendance Office or the Counseling Website.

These absences include any absences not specifically covered by another section of the Conduct Code, such as family vacations,

college visits, or other extended absences to be excused per Jeffco district policy.

COVID Testing Room

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the testing room will be open from 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. moving forward. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, RV’s testing room will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Each room has an exterior door on the Northside of the school that students can use to enter the building for privacy. Entrances are labeled with yellow arrows on the map.

Students will need a consent form filled out prior to the first test. You can electronically fill out the consent form at this link. If the consent was filled out for testing last week, your student will be good for the remainder of the year.

You may prefer to have your student test at an alternative location like Walgreens, King Soopers, CovidCheckCO, or your family physician. All are acceptable. All your student needs to do is provide formal documentation from the test provider that shows a negative test result for that week. Please know that at-home tests will not be accepted.

Medication and Self Screening

A few reminders, please screen or have your students self-screen for any COVID symptoms before sending students to school. Please contact me (Kristie.Charron@jeffco.k12.co.us) for any student with a positive COVID test. If your student will be taking any medication at school, please complete the medication agreement form, have your doctor sign, and return to the nurse (this is also for any over-the-counter medications).

Please also continue to send state allergy, asthma, and seizure plans to myself or our health aide (michelle.hanson@jeffco.k12.co.us) in the main office. If your student has any new or existing health concerns that require a health plan, please contact the nurse so that we can get a health plan in place for your student at school.

I have included the link for the Jeffco Health Services Website which has the necessary forms to complete for medications at school.

Mask Up!

Please help us by reminding your student(s) to bring and wear their mask correctly while at school. Completely covering their nose and mouth will help us foster a positive culture, keep all students in school, avoid quarantines, and keep our students and staff healthy! Thank you! #BetterTogether

Mental Health Support

Did you know that there is a robust collection of mental health resources on the Counseling Department’s website? To find them, go to the RVHS homepage, click on Counseling & Registrar, and select Social/Emotional Resources.

In addition to the resources on the Counseling website, it is also the best place to locate Counselors' contact information. On the homepage, you will find our phone numbers, emails, and how to set up an appointment with us. Our doors are always open virtually and in person.

Happenings Around Ralston Valley

Marching Band competing in the Colorado Band Masters Association State Marching Band Championships on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy.

Spanish III students celebrated Día de los Muertos - Day of the Dead by honoring famous figures who have passed. They honor their legacy by creating "ofrendas" which feature the loved one's photos, personal items, and homemade treats like pan de muerto - dead bread. Our students described in Spanish the life and legacy of their chosen idol and why they chose to honor them in the target language.

Deutschklub in the kitchen preparing for their Herbstfest (Fall-fest). Using German recipes, teams baked Apfelstreuselkuchen und Zwetschgenstreuselkuchen (apple and plum crumble cakes). They prepared Bavarian potato salad, cucumber salad, and green salad as sides for the Bratwurst and veggie dogs. Students got to try Sauerkraut for the first time.

Congratulations to sophomore Arianna Courson for completing and publishing her first book, The Gifted Ones. The book follows the story of high schooler, Lily, and her friends, as they navigate their changing and magical world where they encounter murder, mystery, danger, and maybe even love! Arianna herself is a gifted writer whose debut novel is but a preview of her developing passion and talent for writing. Arianna hopes to continue figuring out and writing about this world and the characters she’s created in a continuing series.
