National Honor Society Induction

Attention new NHS members! Your induction is finally here. Please join us - virtually - on Friday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. when our induction video will go live. The induction video is on the NHS website, and on the RVHS homepage. Recite the pledge, along with Isabelle, and scan for your name at the end. Welcome to NHS!

Trick-or-Treat Street

In lieu of Trick-or-Treat Street, NHS will be hosting a canned food drive from October 26 through November 6. All items will be donated to the Arvada Food Bank. Donation boxes will be outside of each entrance and there will be a competition to see what grade level donates the most cans. Our goal is to donate over 1,000 cans to the Arvada Food Bank.

Dress up for Halloween

Let's get in the holiday spirit and dress up for Halloween. Students in Cohort A are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Tuesday Oct 27th. Remote students and students in Cohort B are encouraged to dress up on Thursday, Oct 29th. While Halloween will look a lot different this year, it can still be a fun. Please be sure that your costume is school appropriate. This means, dress code appropriate, no displays of violence, no weapons (real or fake) are allowed and limit your face covering to your required facemask.

Mustang Madness Clothing is Here!

  • Pick up dates: October 27 or October 28

  • 7:10 am to 7:40 am

You may pick up your Mustang clothing on your in-person learning day at RV. Pull up to the west side of the school and there will be a drive-through lane with caution tape in the athletic parking area. Stay in your car and a volunteer will come to the car, get your name, and deliver your order to you.

If you are not able to come at the above time, your clothing will be left in the main office.

Learning Preference Survey

RVHS families will have the opportunity to choose the learning model for their child(ren) for second semester through the Learning Preference Form. This form will be released on November 9th and will close on November 20th. A submission must be made for each child at RVHS. If a preference form is not filled out for a student, their second semester schedule will default to the learning model (Hybrid or Remote) in which they finished the first semester.

German Wanderbus is Wunderbar!

Ralston Valley High School Level III/AP German students took a virtual trip this week on the Goethe-Institut's Wanderbus. In the 3D space, they learned about German youth culture, politics, watched science experiments and heard about the Germans' obsession with "Wurst". They finished their tour with a live Kahoot game moderated in German by Martin, a Goethe-Institut team member. Frau Blum has also booked the Level II German class for a whirl on the digital Wanderbus in December. Danke, Goethe-Institut!

COVID Quarantine Process

In collaboration with Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) and observing Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) updated guidelines, Jeffco Public Schools has revised our quarantine process effective immediately. This will continue to ensure a comprehensive health and safety process while also potentially reducing the number of quarantined students and staff. The revisions modify the identification process for middle and high school students and staff enabling a more precise targeted identification process.

School-Based Mental Health Clinician - Remote Learning Support and Suicide Prevention

Kelsey Shelander comes to us from Jefferson Center for Mental Health as the School-Based Clinician at Ralston Valley this school year. Kelsey is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 3+ years of experience in working with teens and adolescents. Jefferson Center partners with schools in the county to provide therapeutic interventions including individual, family and group therapy along with clinical case management for school-based clients. Kelsey is solely located at Ralston Valley to offer these aforementioned direct services as well as offering support to the staff with crisis intervention as needed. If you think your student may benefit from ongoing mental health intervention, diagnosis, and treatment, please reach out to your student’s school counselor! The counselor will be the first point of contact in the process, and once a referral for services has been submitted, Kelsey will follow up with you and/or your student for next steps! Kelsey is excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity to support the students, staff, and families of RV!

Athletics

Last Saturday, the boys cross-country team capped a great season with a sixth place finish at the CHSAA 5A State Championships. These boys, especially the seniors, have been working hard for a long time to qualify and have a good showing at STATE!

Big football game out at the NAAC tonight vs. Pomona. Unfortunately, with health department restrictions, the days of just heading over to the stadium for a good high school game are over. A voucher system is in place to qualify for tickets. See the school website under Athletics & Activities for information about tickets for future games. www.PrepSpotlight.TV and the https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/ will live stream the game for those who do not have a voucher to attend.

Another sport that your RV student might be interested in is SKIING. Although we do not have a ski team, the Jefferson County School District does have a team competing out of Evergreen High School. Organization of that team is underway. For more information, contact Coach Broc Thompson at brthomps@jeffcoschools.us

Attention Senior Athletes! If you are planning on signing an NCAA National Letter of Intent to compete in your sport in college, please let either Mr. Hynes or Ms. Beauchamp know by November 6, 2020. We are going to host some type of signing celebration once we know what will be allowed to comply with health department restrictions/guidelines.

Finally, registration for winter sports (basketball, wrestling, girls swim/dive, and ice hockey) will open on November 2 on the school website. Registration runs until December 18, and the official start of the season is January 4, 2021. Go Mustangs!

Mustang Mentor Program (MMP)

Freshmen and Students who are new to RV this year

MMP is required of all Freshman students and students who are new to RV. Attendance is taken! The two remaining MMP dates are: November 13 and December 4 from 2:00 - 2:30. Please encourage your student to participate in these final discussions.

Hybrid and Remote Learning Attendance

Students are not allowed to move from remote learning to in-person learning until the end of first semester. If your student is a Hybrid student, they are expected to attend in-person learning on their assigned days. If your student is sick and unable to attend in-person, please call the attendance line to excuse their absence. Students are encouraged to still attend remotely, even if at home ill, but a phone call to excuse the student not being present in the classroom is still required for security reasons.

Remote-only Students Lunch Option

Students who are entirely remote learners may pick up a free lunch on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 1:45 and 2:15. Students should come to the main front doors of the school where they will be temperature-screened, and then proceed to the cafeteria for a free grab-and-go lunch.

Accountability Meeting Info

Please join our meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone on Monday, October 26 at 3:15pm. To join the meeting, please email Jay Charness, Accountability Chair, prior to the meeting for the link access.

Introducing Google Workspace (Formerly G Suite)

Google is rebranding G Suite as Google Workspace. You've probably noticed branding changes in your Gmail, GCal, and GDrive icons. The rebranding is accompanied with the upcoming rollout of new features to enhance collaboration and productivity, and of course, there are the new icons. Students will access their Google Workspace tools just like they accessed their G Suite tools.

Need Tech Assistance?

Visit our Remote Learning Tech Help Page to view the status of our core tools, access how-to and troubleshooting information, and find out how to get in touch with someone ASAP for tech help.

Please encourage your students to reach out to us for tech help right away so we can get them connected ASAP. It's generally easier to troubleshoot over the phone as opposed to email, so have your student call the school at 303-982-5600 so they can be connected to someone who can assist.
