NATHAN BURNS
Unlocking Invisible Metacognition in the Classroom - Turbo-charging Student Progress
Mr Metacognition, Limited
Metacognition is one of the most powerful pedagogies that we can adopt in the classroom, whilst oracy is one of the biggest areas that schools are working on, internationally.
This session will explore how metacognition and oracy are natural companions, and developing one of these areas will complement the development of the other area.
The session will begin through exploring exactly what is meant by these two things - metacognition and oracy - as well as considering any misconceptions and myths which may have arisen around either of these areas.
The session will then move on to exploring a number of different approaches which can be used in the classroom, to support the development of both oracy and metacognition.
Strategies given will be complimented through a range of examples, from a number of different subject areas and age phases, ensuring that all attendees will see examples of how these approaches may work in their contexts.
Attendees will refine their understanding of both oracy and metacognition.
Attendees will re-consider why developing oracy and metacognition is so important, and how these two areas can be developed in conjunction with each other.
Attendees will be equipped with a number of new strategies which can support the development of oracy and metacognition in the classroom.
Attendees will critically evaluate which approaches may work best in their own contexts.
