MARK RALPH
Exploring Classroom Culture
Mark is the Director of Sports at the International School of Monaco
Workshop Information:
I will share my experience of working with Ron Richart’s work on Cultures of Thinking, and in particular his work on the 8 ‘cultural forces’ that shape our classroom culture.
Drawing on research by Ron Ritchhart (2002), this session will focuses teachers’ attention on the eight cultural forces present in every group learning situation.
These ‘cultural forces’ act as shapers of classroom culture and consist of language, time, environment, opportunities, routines, modeling, interactions, and expectations.
We will explore how these forces can be used to gather critical feedback from students in order to shape our departments and classrooms to impact student learning.
Session Outcomes
Take away an understanding of group culture in multiple contexts.
Take away a framework that can be used to gather valuable feedback and data from students.
