Lighting the wick in the candle of learning - fostering curiosity in the secondary classroom

This session will present a philosophy for fostering pupil curiosity in the secondary classroom, including a range of practical takeaway strategies in different subjects.
The session will consider the value of establishing information gaps, how best to draw upon pupils’ prior knowledge to foster curiosity, the importance of signposting greater complexity in subject content, as well as the psychologically privileged format of stories.

Biography:
Ben has over 15 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and subject and senior leadership. He is currently deputy head at King’s College School in Wimbledon, where he oversees teaching and professional development. Ben is passionate about developing teaching and learning and has led the school’s teacher research group for 8 years.
