This session focuses on giving educators actionable strategies and build a framework to help students become autonomous, confident learners. It moves beyond theory to empower participants to implement practical, scalable solutions in their own contexts.

How do we truly prepare students for lifelong learning? 

At the École Internationale de Mondorf-les-Bains, we’ve placed student autonomy and self-regulated learning at the heart of our educational vision. 

This session will explore how we design a scaffolded program that equips students to take ownership of their learning journey, leveraging the European Baccalaureate’s 8 Key Competences and the IB’s Approaches to Learning (ATL) framework.

We’ll share successes and challenges from our journey as a young international school, sparking reflection and dialogue about how any school can empower students to thrive.

Session Outcomes:

1. Practical strategies to build student autonomy step by step, from primary to secondary.

2. Examples of how we embed metacognition, goal-setting, and reflection into our school culture.

3. Insights into balancing structure and freedom to support all learners.

Biography:

Christophe Gigon is an international educator and school leader with over twenty years of experience across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He is currently Head of Innovation at the École Internationale de Mondorf-les-Bains and serves as a WASC accreditor. His work includes leading online teaching and media information literacy projects, with a strong focus on empowering students through self-regulated learning and innovative pedagogies.
