NATHAN BURNS
Oracy and Metacognition - Two Birds, One Stone
Mr Metacognition, Limited
Ever wondered exactly what metacognition is, and how exactly to maximise its potential in the classroom?
Then this is the session for you!
The session will begin by establishing why metacognition is such an important pedagogical approach, and why we ought to have it as a key focus within our classrooms and schools.
The session will then move on to summarise the literature around metacognitive theory, allowing attendees to develop their understanding of exactly what metacognition is. Here, a deeper metacognitive understanding will support improved implementation of approaches into the classroom.
Finally, the session will go on to explore a number of different approaches that educators can adopt, to improve their own metacognitive delivery.
Through developing metacognitive teaching, students in turn will develop their own metacognitive skills.
The approaches identified in this session will be 'invisible' - meaning that there are no worksheets to print; resources to design or products to buy.
Instead, the session will focus on adapting modelling and questioning approaches to improve overall teaching.
Attendees will develop their understanding of exactly what metacognition is.
Attendees will understand the rationale for developing a metacognitive approach.
Attendees will have a repertoire of 'invisible' metacognitive approaches to support improvements in their teaching.
Attendees will be able to critically consider metacognitive approaches and best suit them to their contexts.
