The Student Council at Thomas A. Blakelock serves as the voice of the students. Our TABloid team had the opportunity to sit down with the Co-Prime Ministers, Tatiana Lassos and Justin Rodrigues, to ask them a few questions about their role and events they have planned for the TAB community.
Last year, the Student Council organized several popular events including the Semi-Formal, Spring Bash, and Trivia Night. They also hosted Sexual Assault and Violence Intevention Services (SAVIS), who came to speak with students in various classes. So far this year, Student Council hosted events like the pumpkin carving contest, and a community donation drive on Halloween, collecting non-perishable goods and contributions for local charities. While other events are still in the works, the council remains dedicated to making each event inclusive and memorable.

For students interested in joining the Student Council at Thomas A. Blakelock, the application process begins towards the end of the school year, around May or June. The candidates are given forms to fill out, and those who are selected are called for an interview. During the interview process, candidates are encouraged to share their interests, passions, and demonstrate how they can contribute positively to the council. The council seeks individuals who are passionate about the school, exhibit leadership qualities, and are eager to make a difference. Even if students don't make it onto the council initially, there are still plenty of opportunities to build leadership skills. Students can join other clubs, sports, or take on roles outside of school such as volunteering to showcase dedication and initiative.
“We just want like-minded people who are passionate about the school and are leaders at heart. That's what we look for,” said Co-Prime Minister, Justin Rodrigues.
The Student Council does a lot more beyond just planning events. Their main goal is to grow school spirit and create a sense of community, ensuring that every student feels included and connected. They are an integral part of the Thomas. A. Blakelock community and welcome all to participate and take part in their strong team!
