On Thursday March 25th, Blakelock’s Relay For Life team hosted an assembly to kick start their event. The Relay For Life assembly included a brief explanation of the event and many fun activities such as student vs teacher karaoke!
Relay For Life is a fundraiser created by the Canadian Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research. The goal of the event is to bring together the school community in support of people fighting cancer and those who have been affected by cancer. Blakelock's financial goal for 2025 is to raise 25 000 dollars. In order to raise the money and reach the goal for this event, the Relay For Life team has set up many fun events where donations will be accepted.
The week of Monday March 31, Relay For Life held a schoolwide spirit week to promote the event. Monday was colour wars, which involved different grades dressing in different colours, Tuesday was jersey day, Wednesday was decades day, and Thursday was pajama day.
A sea of lights for people affected by cancer.
This year's Relay For Life event will take place on Thursday May 1st, 2025. Teams will camp out on the field from the afternoon to the evening and participate in fun games and activities, all while walking or running laps around the track. At least one person from each team must be walking the track at all times. To keep the energy up there will be many themed laps throughout the evening such as, glow in the dark, and a race!
If students wish to join Relay For Life and participate in the fun, you can still do so! Head to @tabrelayforlife on Instagram for more information on signing up. Make sure to keep an eye out for any notices of upcoming events to support the Tigers!
