This spring, T.A. Blakelock’s rugby teams took to the field with determination and a powerful sense of school spirit. Although the win-loss records may not reflect it, all three teams, girls, junior boys, and senior boys, showed impressive teamwork and resilience during the season.
Girls Rugby Scrum
The girls rugby team started off strong with their preseason tournament ending in one win and two tie games. Throughout the season, the girls connected as a team, and despite this being the first time many of them played rugby, they played strong, leading to many close games. The team celebrated a well-earned victory after their third game, where they won 36-35 against Craig Kielburger Secondary School. Unfortunately, the season ended after a playoff game against M.M Robinson High School. The girls rugby team finished the year with one win and five hard-fought games, allowing them to grow and gain confidence as a team. A special thanks to graduating student Keira MacAuley whose leadership and skill made a huge impact on the team. With many players planning to return next year, the future of girls rugby at Blakelock looks bright.

Both the junior and senior boys rugby teams showed hard work and growth throughout a tough season. Both teams faced strong competition in their season, but despite the losses, they never gave up, continuing to learn and play with heart. Coaches and teammates alike are proud of the effort shown. “Even though we didn’t win, we had fun playing,” said senior player AJ Van Heerden. While neither team came away with a win this year, the season was filled with great experiences and a strong commitment to getting better.

The T.A. Blakelock rugby teams showed true spirit and perseverance this season. With their positive attitudes and work ethic, there's no doubt they'll come back even stronger next year. Go Tigers!
