JP: STUDENT GIFTS AND SOLICITATIONS

The state’s conflict of interest law restricts gifts and gratuities given to state, county, and municipal employees. The law prohibits anyone from offering to a public employee anything of substantial value which is given for or because of an official act performed or to be performed by the public employee.

In order to avoid any embarrassment, students will be discouraged from giving gifts to classroom teachers and other school personnel. For the same reason, there will be no formal exchange of gifts between students in the classroom.

Gifts to the teacher’s classroom (materials, supplies, gift certificates to retail suppliers such as Staples), for use in school are acceptable.

Solicitation of funds for charitable purposes from students of the school system will be made only as approved by the appropriate School's Principal.
