October 2-6
ELAR
This week in ELAR we will take our Module 2 assessment and begin Module 3 "Natural Disasters"! We will read the narrative nonfiction Eruption: Volcanoes and the Science of Saving Lives. As we read, we will discuss making and confirming predictions. We will also publish the fiction stories we have been working on in class.
Also, while you are out and about this weekend, we could use donations of Clorox wipes. (Ask your student why these are needed in our ELAR classroom!) I appreciate it!
Please remember to set a time to read each night at home. Reading at home increases comprehension skills, as well as vocabulary. Before reading ask your child: What do you think you are going to read about? During reading ask: What do you think will happen next?
Math
The students will begin Unit 3 which is multiplying and dividing using decimals. They will learn how to place a decimal in the product correctly. They will also learn how to add a decimal and a "0" on a dividend to continue dividing.
HOMEWORK
Students are expected to do homework in IXL and REFLEX. This week Section CC highlighted skills only to 80% and these skills will be due on Friday, October 6. I also require them to get Reflex finished to a green light at least 4 times per week. They will have some class time to work on these assignments. Also, students are allowed to work on homework over the weekend to help them budget their time during the week. I understand that they have after school activities, so I encourage them to budget their time. Please let me know if your child is struggling to finish homework. I am here to work with you.

In Science we are starting our new unit, Interdependency.
Enduring Understandings for this Unit:
Organisms interact with both living and nonliving things to survive in their ecosystems.
Plants interact with living things such as animals and other plants in complex ways that also require nonliving things, such as carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight.
Animals depend on other living things, such as plants and other animals, and nonliving things, such as air and water, to survive
In Social Studies we are continuing... Colonial America.
Europeans began exploring and colonizing North America for a variety of reasons.
Colonists in the Americas adapted to the physical geography and established new economic patterns in the region.
Influential colonial leaders helped to shape colonial societies and established representative governments in the American colonies.
