Important Dates

What are we learning?

Math

I can show what a number looks like.  (using objects or pictures.)

I can represent a number using groups of 10s and 1s. (using 10 frames, bundles, and groupable objects.)

I can write a number to match my representation.

*Please encourage your child to count groups of objects at home such as toys or snacks up to 50. How many groups of ten did you make? How many ones are left over? What number did you make?


ELAR

I can recognize characteristics of realistic fiction.

I can describe characters and the reasons for their actions.

I can explain the reasons for a character’s feelings and actions.

I can write the reason for a character’s action, citing text evidence.

*Please encourage your child to retell the story after reading a book at home together. What happened first? What happened next? What happened last? Discuss the characters in the book and reasons for their actions.

Social Studies

I can explain that a government is a group of people who lead a community and the people of the community choose the government leaders. 

*Please discuss voting with your child. Why is it important for citizens to vote? 

Science

I can identify changes of a material caused by heating.

*Please discuss ways objects change due to adding or taking away heat with your child. 

Reminders

"All About Me" Brown Bags

All student received a brown bag and directions inside the Curriculum Night folder. Please send these bags and items in by Tuesday, so that your child's teacher and class can get to know your child better. Thank you!

Headphones

Please send in a pair of headphones for your child to use in the classroom if you have not done so already. A pair of headphones with a cord to plug in to the iPad is preferred. No bluetooth or wireless headphones, please. Students will be using headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments. 

iPad and Charger

Please be sure your child brings his/her 100% charged iPad AND charger to school every day. 

Volunteers

We will need volunteers this year for field trips and other opportunities! In order to be a volunteer, you must have attended the Volunteer Orientation and completed the criminal background check. All volunteers are required to reapply EACH YEAR.
