Learning Objectives:

Math: Students will represent fractions using number lines and be able to name a fraction for a given point on a number line. 

On Monday, please check your child's GREAT Tiger folder for their weekly math homework. It is due back to school by Friday. 

ELAR:  Students will explore nonfiction and answer questions with text-based evidence. 

After 25 minutes of nightly reading ask your child why he/she thinks the author wrote the text. Was the purpose to persuade, inform, or entertain?  Ask your child to prove their answer with text-based evidence.  Phrases like "according to the story" or "based on this paragraph" are helpful.

Science:  Students will observe forces such as gravity, acting on objects. 

Ask your child to explain what they learn about gravity.

Social Studies: Students will analyze how people in different communities adapt to and modify  the physical environment. 

Ask your child  to give an example on how they can adapt to or modify their environment.

February 7- Students may begin bringing their homemade Valentine boxes to school. Please make sure the opening is large enough for treats to fit in and that your child's name is visible on the top of the box. (A class list of names will be placed in your child's GREAT Tiger folder on February 5. We will have students pass out valentines on February 14.)

Please label your child's warm weather gear. This will save us time as we find the owner and will help keep our Lost & Found from continuing to grow.

You can order a yearbook and create an Ad/ dedication page online at yearbookordercenter.com. The order number for O. C. Taylor is 17833.


Last day to purchase and create an Ad/dedication page is March 8th.

Last day to pre-order a yearbook is April 13th.





Check your child's GREAT Tiger folder each evening. 

Please initial the folder each day. If your child has a note please take time to discuss the issue and make a plan on how to improve behavior. It takes all of us working together to create a successful learning environment.

Absences/Ride Changes

If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please be sure to email your child's teacher, Ms. Paola, and Nurse Katy. It's important for all of these staff members to be contacted in order for your child's attendance to be entered in correctly in Skyward. Thank you so much for emailing paola.cervantes@gcisd.net and katy.faught@gcisd.net along with your child's teacher each time your child is absent from school. 

When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences,  please email both Gene Guinane (gene.guinane@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of them is out of the office.  


Breakfast, Snacks, and Water

Please be sure that your child eats a good breakfast before school. We start our day as soon as they walk in the door.  Since we eat at 12:35, we are asking that you please send one small (peanut-free) snack and refillable water bottle with your child each morning.

Birthdays

Birthdays are special! We will celebrate your child's special day by singing in our classroom. You may send in small treats like pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. if you choose. Please refrain from sending in any food items.



Chromebook Reminder

Please make sure your child is charging their Chromebook each night and has their charger in their backpack each morning. Thank you for your help!


Headphones/Earbuds

Please be sure your child has either a working set of earbuds or headphones that can be left at school.  We need them for the work that we do with technology.  Thank you in advance.
