April 1-5
ELAR
This week in ELAR we will begin reviewing for our STAAR test on April 17.
We will review grammar skills learned this year, as well as perfecting our revising and editing skills. We will practice writing short and extended constructed responses.
Please remember to set a time to read each night at home. Taking the time to read at home increases comprehension skills and vocabulary. As you read, ask your child what connections they can make to another text they have read in the past.
Math
The students are working on Unit 8 which will cover geometry and measurement. The students will practice converting measurements, finding perimeter, area, and volume in this unit. They will also learn how to classify triangles and quadrilaterals.
HOMEWORK
Students are expected to do homework in IXL and REFLEX. This week the students will work on their Interim Plan. This plan is personalized to their learning based on how they did on the interim. They will find the TEK in IXL and do all those skills and then take a quiz over that TEK in IXL. Ms. Lee then will check their results and sign off if they scored mastery. They are working on their Interim Plan of review. I would like it to be completed by April 12. I also require them to get Reflex finished to a green light at least 4 times per week until 100% mastery. They will have some class time to work on these assignments. Also, students are allowed to work on homework over the weekend to help them budget their time during the week. I understand that they have after school activities, so I encourage them to budget their time. Please let me know if your child is struggling to finish homework. I am here to work with you.

When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Gene Guinane (gene.guinane@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net).
Parent Communication:
If a question or concern arises, please contact one of the 5th-grade teachers as your first point of contact. We are here to help answer questions, alleviate concerns, and support you and your child.
