J.W. Pepper Scholarship
J.W. Pepper is proud to offer three $10,000 scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year. Harvard’s Pre-College Program for high school students is an intensive two-week summer program designed to give you a glimpse of college life. You will live on the Harvard campus during your two-week session while taking a college-level course with other Pre-College Program students.
In this collegial setting, you will practice the art of healthy debate, learning to communicate clearly and diplomatically on complex topics.

In Summer College, your high school students can choose from over 100 college-level courses offered on campus, online or on location in one of our academic centers in New York City or Los Angeles. As a Summer College student, they will:
Build their resume or portfolio
Enhance their college applications so they stand out to college admissions
Test out a major before committing to their undergrad degree
Earn a Certificate of Completion and a Syracuse University credit or noncredit transcript

Join MITES Summer (formerly MITES) for our six-week, on-campus program that immerses students from across the country in life at MIT. You’ll take five rigorous, rewarding math, science, and humanities courses—and discover all you can achieve. You’ll also participate in lab tours and social events, and benefit from college admissions counseling. This national program gives you firsthand insights into the value and reward of STEM degrees and careers, while also developing the academic and personal skills you need for success.

SAMS allows students to develop a deeper understanding of STEM via traditional classroom instruction, through hands-on projects, and sustained engagement with world-renowned faculty and skilled staff mentors. Duke Pre-College and Credit Course Programs
Pre-College program: Duke combines intellectual curiosity, exploration, and innovation to offer formidable educational opportunities to current middle and high school students. Pre-College courses aim to give students an early introduction to college expectations and career readiness.
Credit Course Program: Are you a current 10th or 11th grade student (2024-2025 school year) who is interested in earning college credit this summer?
Choose from Duke University courses from across the arts and sciences! A selection of six-week undergraduate courses in Summer Session Term 2 (June 30 – August 11) are available to academically qualified high school students. Participants must be 16-years-old by the first day of the term (June 30) to be eligible. There are no exceptions to this university policy.

If you are a middle or high school student, join us in Athens to explore new learning opportunities. You can learn new skills, discover a new passion, and satisfy your curiosity while having fun in a secure and engaging learning atmosphere.
The Summer Science Program offers an exhilarating and inspiring immersion into hands-on experimental science. Working in teams of three, 36 or 24 participants and 8 faculty form a supportive “living and learning community” over 39 days. Each team completes a real research project, taking and analyzing original data. Afterward, they join a worldwide network of 3,700+ alumni of all ages. In 2024 we operated 12 programs:
Five in Astrophysics: research in near-earth asteroid orbit determination at New Mexico State Univ., Univ. of Colorado Boulder, Georgia College & State Univ., and Univ. of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Three in Biochemistry: research in fungal crop pathogens at Purdue Univ. and Indiana Univ.
Three in Genomics: research in evolution of antibiotic resistance at Indiana Univ., Georgetown Univ., and Purdue Univ.
One in Synthetic Chemistry: Creation of novel macrocyclic compounds at Southwestern Oklahoma State Univ.

Internships:
Because there is a clear lack of underrepresented minorities (URM) at all stages of academic learning for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields*, we are proposing to address this gap by initiating a paid summer internship program for high school students of all backgrounds in the metropolitan Atlanta area beginning in the summer of 2022. Students applying should have a demonstrated interest in advancing the reach of STEM education to groups that have been historically underrepresented in medicine.

NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) paid internships allow high school and college-level students to contribute to the agency’s mission to advance science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration.
OSTEM internships offer students an opportunity to gain practical work experience while working side-by-side with mentors who are research scientists, engineers, and individuals from many other professions. Internships may be full time or part time; and, they may be on a NASA center or facility, or even working from your home or dorm.
Deadline to apply for the summer program is February 28th.
Research:
The Summer Scholars Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is a six-week internship focused on exposing students to cancer research.Ten to twelve students will work one-on-one with a Winship physician or lab-based researcher, conduct research in a working lab or clinic setting, attend field trips to places like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention David J. Sencer Museum and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and hear lectures from a variety of specialists in oncology-related careers. Through this exposure and education, we hope to encourage students to pursue cancer research.
