Night by Elie Wiesel
A relatively short book about the events of the Holocaust, specifically about the thousands that were sent to death and work camps like Buchenwald, Buna , and the infamous Auschwitz. It follows a young boy named Eliezer Wiesel, a Jewish boy that was taken from his home town along with his family and shipped off in hundreds of cattle cars, the author, Eliezer himself used imagery, and many other creative and depictive literary tools to build a strong mental image of the inhumane conditions they were having to live in. It is a solemn book describing these events in great detail, it not only dives into the conditions but the mental conditions created by them. It magnifies the feelings of sorrow and pain having not even been in The Holocaust.
Research Mapping Summative
A short and sweet project in which we work on slides to present and drive a question that we will work on in the future. It includes a paragraph explaining the question and why you chose it, as well as identifying ways to work on said question. This project involved creating the slideshow, and making a short video diving into your slideshow and listing off as well as describing key elements for one's research map. It involved being creative with our question, whilst also building on our slideshow making and presenting skills. This project was relatively short, and sweet. Overall it was a fun assignment.
Narrative Writing Summative
This assignment was about writing a narrative, before this we worked on several different stories and writing pieces to build our skills in this sector of the class, and eventually we had this summative. This summative was about writing a story, could have been about a given image as shown to the right, or about something completely new and different, we were given full creative liberty. This summative was one of, if not the most fun project we as a class worked on. It was exciting to find the writing passion and actually write about something we care about. Not about facts, or a newspaper, but about something you made. This summative overall was an exhilarating assignment and such a breath of fresh air from the other writing assignments in middle school.
