AP Lang has been an interesting experience for both students and teachers this year! Through incorporating rhetorical devices and argumentative strategies, here are some of the projects and events they have done!
Our Juniors worked diligently to both read and create a project after The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Here students were tasked with creating an "artifact" which details a complex understanding of the themes in the story itself. With creative designs and ideas, our juniors were able to create complex projects with complex meanings.
From this, they were allowed a gallery walk where students in each block went around and viewed or even played some of the projects they created. A HUGE shout out to Ms. Johnston for coordinating and organizing this event! These are some of the projects students had created.
(This is Jack Hunsaker's Eulogy!)
After reading "The Crucible" and understanding the rhetorical devices made, students were tasked to create a video "eulogy " for one of the characters, John Proctor.
Students went all out and dressed in black, shed fake tears, and edited their videos to fit the tone. They additionally had a day to watch all of these videos in class while eating snacks and dressed in black as if it were a real funeral procession. This was a job well done by the students and an amazing idea organized by Ms. Johnston!
As an intro to Argumentative Essay writing in AP Lang, Ms. Johnston had two juniors argue in front of the entire class about a debatable topic. She then went on to discuss the ways which make a good argument and what students can do to improve their ability to argue in their essays. These were preparation for the Argumentative Essay portion of the AP Exam which these juniors must take in the May!
Here are some pictures of courageous juniors who took on the task of arguing for the class!
