Our young freshmen were learning how to find unknown elements in their periodic trends unit. Using valence electrons and electron shells, they were able to find the unknown element.
This matching project was followed by integrated questions which they answered and recorded in their research design notebook as part of their lab.
For the chemical reaction testing, where the freshmen have to test their chemical reactions (mostly baking soda and vinegar), the students were tasked with creating a thorough lab procedure to explain their steps in detail, along with their ways to test how well their reactions work.
Some students are exploring the use of chemical reactions to create a battery or an alternate chemical reaction. An example of these batteries includes a chemical reaction consisting of copper, zinc, and vinegar.
