The Retail Experience Manager has a great responsibility and opportunity to make a vast impact on their store and community at large. This is predominantly due to their ability to coach and mentor their team of Outfitters toward improved performance. The ability of their Outfitters to provide a world-class customer experience is refined through continued development opportunities such as Monthly Outfitter card Reviews, coaching in the moment, and more.
Keep in mind that any time spent planning training is time not spent leading training. You’ll want to prepare effectively for all meetings or reviews to ensure these moments are focused and productive.
In this section, we'll outline the varied ways to work with your Outfitters to advance their skills on the sales floor.
While on the sales floor, observe your team and offer coaching in the moment —small doses of constructive or positive feedback based on a specific observation.
Have all Outfitters watch the Weekly Warmup on Fleet Feet University, then use the 'Coach's Notes' section of the Rx Run Down for simple ideas to engage your team after viewing, such as discussion questions, role-playing scenarios, training games, and more.
The Monthly Outfitting Card review sets a regular cadence of conversation around an Outfitter's performance. Centered around the Outfitting Card report in UQube, you can use this process to provide ongoing coaching and feedback, reinforce key metrics, and set actionable goals throughout the year.
Although you should continuously provide your team with performance feedback, it is also best to hold formal Performance Reviews annually, along with a mid-year check-in. Having these more structured conversations with your team also creates an environment where you can discuss any career aspirations they may have, allowing you to personalize your coaching and play a supportive role in their career path.
Additional modes of continued development for your team include:
Training videos on Fleet Feet University include vendor-supplied content, the Expert Outfitter Training Course, seasonal content, and more.
Vendor-led training, such as tech sessions and demo runs
