This is usually a response to avoid an undesired situation, it can be due to confusion, lack of ability to problem solve or express feelings, emotional build up and inability to self regulate.
give a preventative break (go for a walk, bounce on a fit ball).
teach problem solving skills (important do this when calm).
When does the behaviour usually occur?
If it usually occurs in the morning, after recess or lunch this can be in response to heightening during whole school play. Schedule whole class relaxation or silent reading time so the student knows when they come back to class after break time demands will not be made straight away.
If it usually occurs when particular tasks are presented break the task down, offer a smaller portion of the task, it is better for the student to do something than nothing.
