Summer Term - Week 2
Please scroll down for collective worship Tuesday - Friday
Monday 27th April
Hello Everyone. Hope you and you family are well and that you managed to spend a little bit of time in the sunshine over the weekend.
As you know we are thinking about our school values at the moment. They are known by Christians as the ‘Fruit of the Spirit’. At school we call them the Fruits of Friendship with God.
First, please join in singing Jubilate. Thank you Chidubem for requesting this hymn.
Please click here for the audio track.
Which Fruit are we thinking about today?
Can you sort these things according to rough and smooth objects?
Can you think of your own examples?
If you touch rough objects they might hurt your fingers, smooths objects can make you feel good. Sometimes words can be smooth or rough.
Can you sort these words?
How can rough words make people feel?
How can smooth words make people feel?
Can you think of some examples of smooth words people have said to you. What impact did the words have on you?
Gentleness is a fruit we all need to grow. Anyone can be unkind; it is harder to be gentle with someone.

Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. - 1 Timothy 6:11b
Prayers
Dear God,
Help us to notice when people need us to be gentle. Help us not to be so busy that we pass them by or hurt them with our words.
Amen
The following prayer was written by Martha. Thank you for sending it in.
Dear Holy Father,
I hope that all our people are safe in this sticky situation.
We all hope that the NHS can defeat Covid 19 so that we can have a happy life again.
Amen
Please join us in saying the Lord's Prayer together
Action
Think of some ways that you can show gentleness to the people that you live with today.
If you would like to share your actions with us please e-mail school.admin@btconnect.com. Don't forget to send in hymn requests and prayers too.
Have a great day.
Tuesday 28th April
Good Morning Everyone,
I hope you are all OK. Although we don't see each other every day, please know that all of the staff at school are thinking about you and your families and looking forward to seeing you as soon as we can. Today we will continue to think about the Fruits of Friendship with God. Our hymn is a clue to the next Fruit of Friendship with God.
First, please join in singing Let there be Love.

There are lots of different ways to show that you love and care about others.
Here are a few things that children at Cathedral School have said in the past:
Tell someone you love them!
Make something for them.
Show through an action - perhaps helping them with something.
Give them a hug.
Spend time with them.

Action
Today, think of some ways that you have been shown love by the people that you live with. How could you show love to them?
Prayers
Please bow your heads for the Lord's Prayer. Then say the following prayer.
Dear God,
Help us to show love to others by giving them the time we would rather have to ourselves, by giving them help when we would rather be playing and by showing our love in what we say and do.
Amen.
Have a good day and look after each other.
Wednesday 29th April
Hello Everyone,
I hope you all had a good day yesterday.
Please join in singing One More Step.

This is a photograph of a sheep dog herding sheep. It is the sheep dog's job to follow the shepherd's commands in order to round up the sheep.
Here are some commands a farmer might use:
A clap = one step to the right
A whistle = one step to the left
A stamp = one step forward
A click of the fingers = one step back
Work with your grown up, brother or sister to take it in turns to be the shepherd and the sheep dog.
Were you able to follow commands?
Can you guess which Fruit of Friendship with God we are thinking about today?
Sheep dogs are under the control of the shepherd. They follow the shepherd's commands. The Bible says that one of the results of friendship with God is self-control. That means that you stop yourself doing wrong things without being made to and that you choose to do the right thing on your own.
Think about a time when you have shown self-control and made the right choice without being told to do so.

Prayers
Heavenly Father,
We thank you that you are a good shepherd who leads people through life. Help us to have self-control to stop ourselves doing what we shouldn’t.
Amen
Thursday 30th April
Good morning everybody. It’s Father Andrew here. I hope you are all keeping well. It is very strange not being able to do what we normally do and I am particularly missing seeing you all in school.
Being at home, however, has meant that I have been eating much better and healthier than I normally do. I have been buying my vegetables in the Borough Market and I have even been baking! (Here are my cheese scones). So I have been discovering how important our meals are, and how important proper meals are.
Here is a question for you. Which of these is the most important meal of the day?
a) Breakfast
b) Lunch
c) Dinner
d) A snack in front of the television
e) All of the above
Think about it while we sing this hymn.

The answer is of course a) breakfast. The clue is in the name, it is the meal that breaks the fast. A ‘fast’ is when we are not eating for some time, deliberately not eating. At the moment our Muslim friends are keeping Ramadan, so they don’t eat between sunrise and sunset each day, no food at all. So they break their fast with an Iftar, a meal they share with those in their house.
But Christians would fast overnight and only eat when they had been to church in the morning. Then they had break-fast!

Read this Bible story John 21.1-14
The disciples had left Jerusalem. They were sad about what had happened to Jesus and confused by all the stories about him being alive; they thought he was dead. So they go back to the thing that they were doing before Jesus called them – they went back to being fishermen.
And that was what they were doing when all of a sudden they saw someone on the beach.
I love this picture. It was dawn, they had been fishing all night. In the early light they couldn’t see clearly. But they could smell food cooking over a fire and it made their tummy’s rumble. And the unknown person on the beach says to them,
‘Come and have breakfast.’
It was just what they needed. And as they were having breakfast with him they realised it was Jesus.
Jesus always brings us what we need, at the right time.
Prayers
Lord Jesus, be with us today, just when we need you.
Amen.
Actions
Help plan the next meal that your family are going to share.
If you have a table to eat at, help set it with knives and forks and what you need
Write a prayer that you can say before you eat – we call such a prayer ‘Grace’ - and remember to thank Jesus for being with you.
Friday 1st May
Thank you so much to Father Andrew for leading our collective worship yesterday. I was very impressed to see Father Andrew's scones. Have you been baking or helping your family to prepare meals?
Here is a photo of the Easter biscuits I made with my eldest daughter. We would love to see some photos of the food you have been making.
It has been lovely to receive hymn requests and prayers. I will make sure they are included in our worship today and next week.
This hymn has been requested by Cheri’anea and Cam’ron. Let's join in singing Servant King.

At the moment, so many people have been undertaking good deeds and showing acts of kindness to help others. One example is Captain Tom Moore.
He is a retired military person.
Yesterday he celebrated his 100th birthay.
He wanted to help by doing a sponsored walk, walking 100 lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday. He hoped to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together which support the incredible NHS staff and volunteers.
People around the world were so inspired by his effort to help others that thousands and thousands of people have sponsored him and he has not just raised his target of £1,000 but has now raised over £31million.
He received a personalised telegram from the Queen to celebrate reaching 100 and the Prime Minister sent him a message of good wishes, saying: "Your heroic efforts have lifted the spirits of the entire nation."
In honour of the milestone and his charity efforts, he has also been given the special title of Honorary Colonel!
Think about..
Captain Tom’s walk by someone who clearly finds walking difficult and a real effort, reminds us, that everyone is of value and has something to offer; Jesus teaches us that each one of us is precious and loved by God for who we are and how we are.
How has Captain Tom Moore inspired others to do good deeds?
How will you help others today?
Can you think of a time when you have been the recipient of an act of kindness? How did it feel?
Which Fruits of Friendship with God does Captain Tom Moore embody?
Prayers
Dear God,
Thank you for Captain Moore who is an example of how to help others and stay strong. He inspires us to act with kindness and positivity. Please protect all the doctors, nurses and NHS staff who are working hard to keep everyone well.
Amen
