Sports Week

This week is Sports Week! Can you name some important sporting events that are taking place at the moment?

It is a very exciting time and we are very proud of how well the England team are playing in the football.

What is your favourite sport? Why? Do you go to a sports club or do you train to improve your skills at home or in the park?

Soon it will be the Tokyo Olympics. You will be learning more about it this week during Sports Week. I wonder if anyone from Cathedral School will be an Olympian in years to come?

Qualities

Which qualities do youthink you need to be an Olympian?

Perseverence? Determination? Can you think of some more?

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for sport and the fact that it keeps our minds and bodies fit and active. Please help us to try our best and play fair at all times.

Amen.

Hymn

This term, we’re revisiting the Fruits of Friendship with God.

We’ve revisited all of them! So today, we’re going to be thinking about fruitfulness – that is, what it means to show these fruits in our lives and grow in our friendship with God.

Fruitfulness

What does a plant need if it is going to grow well and flourish (be healthy and produce fruit)?

Have a look at these pictures, and see if you can work out which one a plant needs (it doesn’t need all of them!).

There are things that we need to help us flourish too. Of course, we do need things like water and food to keep us healthy, but our relationships and friendships with God and other people help us to flourish too.

When we flourish, then we are fruitful, and when we are fruitful – when we show the Fruits of Friendship with God in our lives, we can help others to flourish and be fruitful too.

I wonder how it makes you feel when:

- someone is kind to you?

- you show self-control and make the right choices?

- someone is patient and gives you the time you need to do something or to work something out?

If you have time, perhaps you could think about the other Fruits of Friendship with God too.

Prayer

Let’s pray, thanking God for the people who help us to flourish, and asking that we may show the Fruits of Friendship with God in our lives and help others to flourish too.

Loving God,

Thank you for the people who show us kindness, love, patience and all of the Fruits of Friendship. They help us to flourish and grow.

Help us to show the Fruits of Friendship with you in our own lives, so that we help others to grow and flourish too.

Amen.
