Spring 2 - Week 5
Monday 22nd March
Good Morning Cathedral School,
I hope you had a good weekend.
Today is the first day of Spring!
According to astronomers, spring begins when we reach something called the vernal equinox, which happens on 21 March. However, for most of us, it has more to do with what we can see.
How do you know that Spring has arrived? Tell a partner.
New Beginnings
However you notice it, Spring is about new beginnings and fresh starts. Spring is the season when it all starts again, the first season in another cycle of the year.
What are you looking forward to?
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for Spring and the promise of new beginnings and a fresh start. Please help us to appreciate the chance to start afresh.
Amen
Tuesday 23 March
Good Morning Cathedral School. Today is the second day of Spring and it is quite chilly. Hopefully it will warm up as the day goes on.
Spring
This piece of music is called Spring and it is by Antonio Vivaldi.
As you listen and look at the beautiful spring pictures please think about the things that make you feel hopeful.
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for Spring and the hope it bring us. Please keep the weather nice and warm today.
Amen
Wednesday 24th March
Good Morning Cathedral School,
Sunday is a special day. Who knows what this Sunday is and why it is important?
As Jesus entered Jerusalem the people welcomed him as a king, but kings usually rode horses, which are a sign of war. Jesus came on a donkey, which is a sign of peace. Just like the olive branch, the donkey signalled to the crowd that Jesus was a man of peace.
Good News
Southwark Cathedral will be reopening from Palm Sunday. If you and your family would like to attend a service you need go to the Southwark Cathedral website to book a free ticket, you cannot just turn up.
If you can't get to Southwark Cathedral on Sunday, you could always ask your grown-up if you could watch it online instead.
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for your son Jesus, Prince of Peace. Please help us to have a peaceful day today.
Amen
Thursday 25th March
It’s Revd Lisa here. I hope you have had a good week so far.
Something that bring me joy
I have a (small) collection of mugs and they bring me joy.
They don’t bring me joy just because they usually have something nice to drink in them – although I think hot chocolate brings me a bit of joy too! They bring me joy because they remind me of the people who gave them to me.
The one on the left is from my Mum, and she gave it to me when I became a priest; the one in the middle is from my husband’s Mum and the one on the right is from my husband. He gave it to me quite soon after we got married.
My Mum, my husband’s Mum and my husband are all people who love me, and I love them too. Thinking about people who I love and care about brings me joy.
I wonder if there are any special people who bring you joy?
Thinking about the people who bring me joy reminded me of one of my favourite Bible verses:
“The Lord your God is with you.
The mighty one will save you.
The Lord will be happy with you.
You will rest in his love.
He will be sing and be joyful about you.”
(Zephaniah 3:17)
This verse reminds me that God loves me and I bring God joy, but this verse wasn’t written just about me! It was written about you too.
God loves each one of us, and each one of us brings God joy.
I wonder how knowing that you bring God joy makes you feel?
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for your gifts of love and joy.
Help us to love others, as you love us.
Amen.
