Summer 1 - Week 6
Monday 24th May
When is your birthday? How did you celebrate?
Here is the story of the birthday of the church. Christians celebrate this at Pentecost, which was yesterday.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for Pentecost or Whitsun, when people remember the birthday of your Church.
Amen
Tuesday 25th May
Good Morning Everyone. I hope you have a sunny Tuesday.
Fire
Last week we thought about 2 symbols of the Holy Spirit - the dove and the wind. Fire is also a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Fire is important. Can you think of some ways we use fire?
Fire is also very dangerous. Can you think of some important fire safety rules? Some of you might be able to remember when a fire safety officer came to visit you at school.
Heat Cleans
Sometimes things are heated to a high temperature which cleans them and get rid of germs and dirt.
Often parents will sterilise their baby's bottles to make sure they are clean ready for the baby to drink from.
The milk we drink is pasteurised, which means it has been heated to a high temperature to kill all the germs.
Why do you think the Holy Spirit is sometimes described as a fire?
The Holy Spirit is sometimes described as a fire because of the way the Holy Spirit works in people's lives to get rid of wrong just as the fire gets rid of germs that could harm us. That does not mean the Holy Spirit is a real fire, just that the Holy Spirit works like a fire to change people.
Look at the candle and the flame. It looks small but fire is very powerful. Close your eyes for a moment. Think of things about yourself that you would like to change for the better.
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you that you send your Holy Spirit to act in the world and within people's lives, changing them for the better.
Amen
Wednesday 26th May
Good Morning Cathedral School! At our last School Council meeting we talked about the ducklings that are in the Nursery at the moment. School Councillors asked that each class gets the chance to visit them and that we have a collective worship based on the Nursery ducklings.
Ducklings
Do you remember being in Nursery or Reception and looking after some caterpillars, ducklings or chicks? How did it feel to see them grow?
Here are 2 photos of the ducklings emerging from their eggs.
The Nursery children have named them Donald, Daisy and Debbie!
The ducklings like to bathe in the water tray and have a waddle down the Key Stage 1 corridor before school starts. They also love people - they are very quiet when the children or adults are near them but as soon as no one is next to the cage, they start to cheep very loudly for attention!
Having ducklings, chicks or caterpillars in school reminds us of the miracle of life. Thank you School Council for making sure we all get to see them and reminding us of the joy they bring to our school.
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for animals and people who bring us joy and cheer us up. Please help us to bring joy to others.
Amen.
Thursday 27th May
Good morning, Cathedral School. I hope that you are all well and enjoying this summer term.
I grew up, not in London, but in a city called Leicester. It’s famous for some things – Walkers Crisps, pork pies, King Richard III and Gary Linaker. Now it’s famous because we have just won the FA Cup!!
It’s time to sing a hymn.
Hymn
Please listen to this hymn. Can you guess which Fruit of Friendship with God we are thinking about today?
Fruits of Friendship with God
Faithfulness
We are thinking today about a special word – faithfulness. It’s a word that we use in that hymn we have just sung. But what does it mean?
Well, I just want us to think about Leicester City Football Club. You may support another club but the same may apply to you.
My dad has always been a faithful supporter of Leicester City. He had a Season Ticket and went to all the games – and he went when they were winning and he went when they were losing. He didn’t stop supporting them when they were on the way down; he didn’t just support them when they were on their way up. He is a faithful supporter of Leicester, which means he believes in them and he sticks with them.
The God we love is faithful. God sticks by us, whether we are doing well, or not so well. He loves us whether things are going well or not so well. As we sang, great is thy faithfulness.
And in return we stick by God, we are faithful. We don’t just say our prayers when we need something, when things are tough, but also when they are good. We don’t just go to church when the sun is shining but also when it is raining.
God is a fan of you, he is your greatest fan, and we are fans of God. That is faithfulness.
Prayer
Dear God,
Faithful God,
as you stick by me today
may I stick by you.
Amen.
Friday 7th May
Good Morning Cathedral School. I hope you have had a good week. Well done to everyone for all your hard work this half term. I can tell from your Class Blogs that you have been very busy. Next week is half term so please have a rest but keep reading!
Poetry Week
I hope you all enjoy the visit from poet Neal Zetter today. I have been impressed with the poems you have been writing and reciting this week .. Did you know that there are 6 books in the Bible that contain poems: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, and Lamentations?
