Summer 2 - Week 7
Monday 19th July
Good Morning Cathedral School!
Call My Bluff
Have you ever played 'Call My Bluff'? You have guess which definition of a word is correct.
The word is: Tormentil
Is it....
A nasty person who keeps tormenting people until they lose their temper
A trailing plant with yellow flowers. In the past its roots were used to cure the torment of stomach ache.
An old word for a large stone found standing alone in a field, probably put up by our stone age ancestors.
Talk to your partner - which one do you think is the correct definition and why? The answer is after the prayer!
This is a great game to play on long journeys or if you have to wait in a queue!
The Truth
We can sometimes tell when people are telling the truth. At other times it is more difficult. Jesus said, 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.' It is strange to call a person 'the Truth'. But Christians believe that if you look at Jesus and the way he lived, his life tells the truth about God. Jesus was loving, just and caring, and so is God.
Prayer
Thank you Jesus, that you are the truth about God. Looking at you, we see someone who is good, just and loving and we know God is the same. Help us to tell the truth even when it is very hard.
Amen.
If you picked definition 2, you are correct! A tormentil is a trailing plant!
Tuesday 20th July
Good Morning Everyone,
Today is transition morning. You will have the chance to meet your new teacher and teaching assistant.
Improvements
This year has been a busy year of learning new knowledge and new skills.
Can you tell your partner about 1 skill you have learnt or improved.
You might have worked hard to improve your handwriting, perhaps you could not play the recorder at the beginning of the year and now you can or maybe you have practised your tables tables and you can now recall them all very quickly!
Congratulations!
Today is the chance to show your new teacher and teaching assistant how well you can listen, do as you are told and work hard.
I am sure you will have a great time in your new class.
Our school motto is 'Life in all its fullness' and part of that is about being ready to change, grow and move up to your next class in September.
What are you most looking forward to in your next class?
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for our teachers and teaching assistants. Please help us to work hard and do our best every day. Please help us to live life in all its fullness.
Amen.
Wednesday 21st July
Good morning Cathedral School. It’s Miss Dace with you this morning!
This morning is a celebration of the wonderful music making that has been happening around the school this term.
Class 4 would like to share with you their final performance from their recorder lessons, and Class 3 would like to present their project on the opera of Hansel and Gretel.
I hope you enjoy them.
Recorders
Class 4 have been learning the recorder since the Spring. Their teacher Dave has been so impressed with the progress they have made. Well done Class 4!

Opera
Class 3 took part in the Create and Sing project from the Royal Opera House this term. The project focussed on dramatic singing and improvisation. The children learnt some songs from the opera and decided how to use their movement and voices to bring the characters and settings to life.
The class then wrote and recorded some narrative to help tell the story, and produced some artwork to add to the atmosphere.
Class 3 hope you enjoy watching the performance they came up with, along with some of their favourite games from rehearsals.

If you’re feeling inspired, you might like to choose a hymn from the blog to sing together as a class. Have a lovely day!
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for music that brings us together. May the gifts of our voices and melodies of our instruments bring hope and happiness to the world.
Amen
Thursday 22nd July
Good Morning Cathedral School.
Today is the end of the school year. Well done for working so hard this year.
Today will be certificate assembly and a goodbye to Year 6. Yesterday Year 6 performed The Little Mermaid for their parents - it was a fantastic show! All of the parents were so proud. What a great way to end the last week of primary school! Thank you Year 6 for being such a great class - you have been excellent role models for the rest of the school in terms of behaviour and learning and you help to make our school a lovely place to be. We all wish you every success and happiness at secondary school.
Our school motto is 'life in all its fullness' and we have definitely lived that this year at school! When you take just a couple of minutes to scroll through the class blogs it is easy to see that everybody has been working hard and learning such a wide range of skills and knowledge. Well done!
Certificates
Well done on all of your hard work and achievements this year.
Hymn
If you have time you might like to choose an other hymn to sing together. This depends how much time you have.
Please take part in our Reading Challenge! We are excited to hear about the books you choose.
Before we have our prayers, we need to say a huge thank you to your teachers and support staff for working so hard to make sure you are happy and learning. Please turn to them now and say a big 'thank you'. As you walk around school today, don't forget to say thank you to people like June, Steve and the ladies in the kitchen. All the adults work together to do the best for all of the children in the school.
Prayer
Please bow your head for the prayer.
Dear Lord,
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
Amen
