The year started off with huge excitement as our boys and girls took to the cricket field. Clifton cricketers worked hard at improving their skills this season, with many of them putting in extra hours of practice on their own accord. The hard work that has been invested has allowed the opportunity for growth and development in the game we all love.
Our 1st Cricket team was privileged to host the annual Independent Schools Cricket Festival “ISCF”. This year’s opening fixture was a 50 over match, which took place against Woodridge from Gqeberha. Woodridge found themselves on the back-foot early in the day, after Clifton bowled first. Our cricket boys took wickets at regular intervals and bowled out our opposition for 73. Clifton made light work of the target and chased down the total in the space of 10 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.
Clifton’s remaining fixtures consisted of a time cricket match against Pridwin which ended in a draw. Our final fixture was extremely exciting Twenty20 against St John's from Zimbabwe. St John's restricted us to 100 in our allocated 20 overs. A clinical team effort by our boys showed the Clifton Notties never say die attitude and resulted in a hard fought win by 14 runs.
The Clifton 1st XI and U11A cricket boys took part in a historic fixture against Clifton Durban. Both teams fought hard however none of our teams were able to come home with a victory. The fixture was incredibly enjoyable and both team’s players walked away having made new friends and gained respect for one another. We look forward to the future of this historic annual fixture in the years to come.
The cricket boys and girls can look back on what has been a successful season both on and off the field. There has been much growth with many special individual and team performances. Our boys and girls can be proud of their cricketing achievements this season.
