Grade 7 Leadership Camp: 17 - 19 January

It was back to Clifton with a bump on Wednesday 17th January. With Level 5 weather warnings soon to break, our Grade 7 team eagerly hopped into the buses and headed off to the beautiful Baynesfield Estate to take part in our annual Grade 7 Leadership Camp, this year facilitated by the charismatic Tikey Odell and his team from ‘The Farm’.

While the weather was initially rather challenging, it was magnificent to see our charges adapt and adjust, learning a valuable lesson in facing obstacles and working together. The Baynesfield obstacle course is not for the faint-hearted, complete with swings over mud pools, balance beams, rope ladders and a variety of other challenges that force teamwork. Having seen the children’s genuine support and cohesion was humbling - we certainly are blessed with a unique bunch this year.

Amazing Races, balloon challenges, some canoeing, a hike and even the added pressure of Tikey’s Chicken Challenge put the children to the test, with the end result being children who may well have surprised themselves at their own abilities.

Sleep came easily to the children on both nights! Over and above the physical challenges and successes, there was an inspiring cake-based message (you’ll need to ask the children) from Mr Rob Odell (himself a man of legendary status in the Clifton community) which focused on the facets of leadership. The final morning saw Mr Prinsloo reminding the children of their responsibilities as Grade 7s and the leaders of the school, as well as the value gained in the lessons learnt through overcoming adversity.

The Grade 7s are well-equipped to make the most of 2024. Watch this space - it’s going to be year of impressive growth.
