Grade 000 - Termly Update

As we reach the end of the first term, it’s wonderful to reflect on all the fun and learning that has taken place. From mastering routines to the packing of bags, negotiating our way around all the play areas, and engaging in activities like painting and playdough.

So, named after bees in nature, many similarities are emerging between those wonderful creatures and our very own Grade 000 Bee class.

Honey bees are super-important creatures, and so are we.

Honey bees live in hives, and our classroom has become a hive of activity, where the children can play, build, sort, draw, stamp, colour, collage, and create every new day.

A hive is also made up of different bees, and just like ours, each one is unique and very special. The Queen runs the whole hive and her job is to make sure that there are many opportunities to learn and play through discovery.

The Grade 000s are great little worker bees too, learning to help when cleaning the hive each day. We have four boy drones and even some carpenter bees, who spend much time building tunnels and dams in the sandpit.

Bees are very noisy because they beat their wings 11, 400 times a minute. Our classroom is NEVER quiet.

Some bees are thrill-seekers, while others are a bit more timid. A wonderful mix that we have in our little group too.

Honeybees are fab flyers. They fly at a speed of around 25km per hour. Some of our little bees are quick, agile, and already growing in confidence when moving from area to area, whilst learning to keep their bodies safe.

Without bees the world would not function, nor would it look the way it does today, and without our own little Grade 000 bees, neither would Clifton.

The only bee fact that is of concern to me, however, is that bees love their Queen until she gets old.
