I am excited to welcome you back! Here is the agenda and welcome back letter for 2022-2023
We just got back from a week in Galveston and it was such wonderful family time! I hope you were able to spend some time with those you love this summer!
Some of you like working during the summer to prepare for the upcoming year.
Building Open:
July 25
Once you get into the building, please remember the following...
Do not take furniture or items from other rooms.
If you need furniture, you can contact Linda.
If you need to remove furniture, put it in the hallway and put a sticky note asking for it to be removed.
All curriculum materials stay in your room. We do not shift materials. They belong in your room.
Do not put items on the tables in the work room for giveaway.
The alarm key pad was removed from the back green door. I got here REALLY early this morning (like 5:30) and to my surprise I did not see a keypad. I SPRINTED across the front office to the keypad near the front door. Please make sure you enter through the front door when you are coming in the building so you can turn the alarm off. I bought a new board to write names on when they enter and exit the building. I will place It near the alarm key pad. Please make sure to write your name as you enter and exit the building.
The air conditioning is not on daily. Make sure when you get to your room you override your air conditioning. Go to the thermostat and press the up arrow button. I think it will give you three hours and then you need to override again.
I walked some classrooms and I noticed a few things that needed to be done (holes in walls, electrical outlets sticking out, floor not cleaned). If you see ANYTHING that needs to be completed (work order), please fill out this google doc and Linda or I will put the work order in for you. This is just for work orders. If you are looking for furniture, please let Linda know.
If you are looking to add furniture: Let Linda know. Any furniture in Room A119 is open for grabs. Feel free to take
If you are looking to remove furniture, let Mike know.
Do not put stuff in other rooms. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! I have already cleaned out items that was thrown in the lounge. If you do not want it and do not know where it goes, just ask. All curriculum materials stay in your room.
There is not propping open of doors. This is serious. We must keep all outdoor doors locked and closed. ALL CFB staff must enter through the front doors. Do not let staff enter through the side doors (even if they have a badge). They need to come in and sign in. This includes therapy staff in the DC.
All classroom doors must remain locked during the day. Make sure you have your keys on you to enter your room.
I know many of us have Back to School events for our own children. If you have a child who has an event coming up and you want to attend (but can’t because we have something at the same time), let me know. FAMILY FIRST. We will do our best to cover your class so you can make memories with your child. I just need advanced notice.
I had put in a request for several classrooms to be painted. The custodial department was very busy and was not able to get all the rooms painted. I am sorry :-(
The Welman Project connects schools and nonprofits with the community in ways that ignite creativity, environmental activism, and social responsibility. We serve as a free resource, distributing surplus materials from local companies for creative reuse in the classroom and beyond. Teachers shop for free in our Educator Warehouse, and everyone can shop in our new Curiosity Shop for great deals on art supplies, craft materials, vintage treasures, and unique gifts made by local reuse artists - with 100% of proceeds going to help us fill a classroom, not a landfill! http://www.thewelmanproject.org/getstuff.html
Lee Cunningham

Lee Cunningham is a born-and-raised Hoosier who moved to Dallas four years ago. For the past four years she has served different roles in Dallas ISD. She graduated from Indiana University with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education, and received her Masters in Language and Literacy from Lesley University. She also graduated from the Second City’s improvisation program in Chicago.
When she’s not teaching, you can find Lee hanging out with her husband Clayton, dog Norman, the new kid in town Hayes (he’ll be six months in a few weeks). She might also be browsing AirBnBs around the world or creating espresso drinks.
Lee is so excited to join the Carrollton Elementary family in the Fall and can’t wait to meet everyone!
Dolores Abousaid

Samantha Pliego

Hi everyone! I am super excited to work with you next school year! My name is Samantha Pliego and I am originally from Dalhart, TX but I have lived in the DFW area for about two years now. I have my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin. The past two years I have worked as a para at Braswell High School in Denton ISD and I am working on completing my requirements to be fully certified as a teacher through an alternative certification program. In my spare time I like to go to the climbing gym, walk trails, and paint paint-by-number portraits. I have one cat and he is the most adorable thing to me. I am big on finding new places to eat at so if you have any recommendations, send them my way! I cannot wait to meet all of you and have a great school year!
Catherine Aragon
4th grade monolingual ELAR
Hello! My name is Catherine Aragon and this will be my second-year teaching. I went to Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD as a student. I then attended the University of North Texas for my bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Between that time, I worked for After the Bell, and the AVID program. When I have free time, you can catch me with my family, or friends. I also love to spend time traveling. I am always catching a flight to go somewhere new. My dream is to travel to Europe. Ultimately, I love what I do. My main focus is to not just teach academics, but also help my students find their voices. I am so happy to be joining the Carrollton Elementary family!
(Amber) M'Kay Hall
ESSER/WIN Team
I am a native Texan, born in Lubbock and raised in Dallas. I grew up dancing and loved the drill team and studio dance life for years. I was a Rangerette at Kilgore College and graduated from UNT.
Most of my teaching career has been within EC-2nd grade. I am a mama to a spunky almost five year old boy. I have a health coaching business that allows me to help mamas of all sides of the journey reclaim their health and wellness in a balanced way.
My faith plays a big part in my daily life, I love concerts, music in general, but mostly worship and country music, taking dance classes, working out and just spending a lot of time with family and friends. I’m a big sports fan and will almost always root for the underdog!!
Cristina Rodriguez
Dyslexia Therapist
Hello everyone, I am Cristina Rodriguez. This past school year I was teaching 2nd grade Bilingual at Thompson Elementary. This is my second year with CFBISD and my 11th year in education. Twenty years ago we moved to the Dallas area so that I may be a stay-at-home mother. Being a stay-at-home mom was an amazing blessing for our family! I was able to start a preschool coop in my church community to help other children take their first steps towards literacy. When my fourth child started Kindergarten I decided to go back to the classroom. It has been a total adventure. I enjoy being proactive in helping students to grow academically and emotionally. I am thrilled to be working with students as a Dyslexia Interventionist. I consider teaching one of my hobbies because I am so passionate about education and literacy that I do not consider what I do work. I look forward to meeting you all, learning from you, and serving the Carrollton family!
Carolyn Lara - Kinder monolingual
Hi y'all! My name is Carolyn Lara and I am so excited to be part of the Kindergarten team! I attended CFB during grade school, and had Ms. Quintero as my Pre-K teacher. How cool right?! I then attended Brookhaven college where I studied pre-reqs for nursing, and later transferred to Texas Woman's University where I graduated with my B.S. in 4th-8th grade Bilingual Education. Through my experiences in education, I have realized that it takes a lot to be a successful teacher. I thrive on classroom procedures, routines and organization. I can't wait to see my students excel in their academic and social development. During my free time, try new foods, travel, workout with Camp Gladiator, and hang out with family and friends. Oh, and I'm an expert at buying things I don't need. See y'all in August! :)
Stephanie Samaniego
1st grade bilingual
Hello everyone, my name is Stephanie and I am very excited to join the Carrollton Elementary team this coming school year as a first grade bilingual teacher. I am originally from Texas, but my family is from Ecuador. I have lived and traveled to many places around the globe, but have settled in Texas for the past five years. I love teaching bilingual and have done so for the past four years. In my free time, I love to travel and hang out with my husband and our dog Callie. Can't wait to meet you all soon!
Sally Szukala
Librarian
I grew up in Oneida, NY, and attended the University of Rochester for my undergraduate degree. I moved to Texas shortly after college and have never regretted it! My first career was as a programmer for IBM, but later I decided to make a change into education. I love working with students of all ages!
I also love spending time with my family - my husband Jim and our 4 children (1 is missing in the picture). Outside of school, I enjoy traveling to new places, working outdoors in our garden, and of course reading!

MATH
Hello Teachers and Leaders,
I am writing to inform you about the following preparations:
Our first curriculum units are finalized and ready to study. You can find the materials list and links to unit 1 by clicking the link here. This link will be helpful as you make preparations for next school year, and especially helpful for those newly hired. New Hires should bring the listed Investigations Teacher Edition to the new hire training in July.
Savvas is “sunsetting” the Savvas Success Net platform. This means curriculum materials (Teacher Editions, Viewable Student Activity Books, and Resource Masters) will no longer be available online. Do not worry. We were able to download PDFs of ALL resource masters and will have those linked within units, or available on the O drive. We are also working diligently to make sure consumable student activity books are delivered and ready for student use on the 1st day of school. If you are missing an Investigations Kit (box of teacher editions) or it is incomplete, please let us know.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for all of your hard work this year, and I hope you have an amazing summer!
Sincerely,
Whitney Hartman
Director of Elementary Mathematics
