We have excellent support from community partners re: School Supplies for our Lions!
Monday, August 15, is the day that the Texas YES Project will be handing out school supplies to all our K-5 students! They are planning on starting at 8:30 am, and they anticipate it will take an hour or less.
The process: Starting with 4th grade at 8:30, students will walk down the 4th grade hallway and go through in a single file line to collect their supplies. We will monitor how long it takes, and I will send a message in group me when the next grade level can come.
Order of grades:
4th, 5th, 3rd (come after specials), 2nd, 1st, Kinder
*These have not been delivered yet. We will keep you posted.
Ms. Szukala is making a plan for devices. She will be sending out that plan soon! Stay tuned!
We are working on a plan for morning announcements. Until we get back to you, please make sure to practice both pledges in the morning.
If you are entering the front office, please go through the doors near Roxanna's office. The front office staff is very busy and it is hard to always have to open the door for you.
Many classrooms have purchased doorbells and it is working well :-)
If there is a sub:
The sub will sign in with Ms. McFaddin
They will receive a magnet with the following instructions:
This magnet should only be used when there are no students in the classroom. You can use this magnet if you are not in the classroom and need to keep the door unlocked (for example, taking students to recess/lunch).
When students are in the classroom, the doors MUST REMAIN LOCKED at all times. Students will knock when they need to enter the classroom.
You must return this magnet when you sign out with Ms.McFaddin at the end of the day
Pam Chancey will be our Long Term Sub for the campus. She will start on Monday, August 15th.
Stefany Ramos will be working with Mrs. Ramirez as our new PK aide. She will start sometime next week.
Kandace Baker will be our new BRS. She will be on campus on Tuesday, Thursday, and 1/2 day on Friday.
Yovanna Garcia Almanza will be working in the Developmental Center as our new DC aide. She will start sometime next week.
ARD Meetings will be scheduled on Wednesdays. There are some times that this might not work, so please be flexible.
Please remember to put yourself in the parent's shoes: I meet parents a lot who are genuinely concerned about their child, but don't know how to help. Whether it's due to a lack of education, support, or understanding, they are having the same problems you are. Try to understand how difficult it must be to have a child with a disability, and be cautious in how you speak about that child with the parent.
To-Do by August 19th: Set up your Signature in Strive
ALL (paraprofessional, teaching, support positions, coaches, etc.) STAFF:
ALL STAFF (professionals and paraprofessionals): When a user logs on for the first time, Strive will require you to answer Security Question(s). Electronic Signatures in Strive
NOTE: Teachers need to update grade level(s) and content area(s) in Strive at this time.
Why? Well, researchers have found that optimal communication between parents and teachers can have a significant impact on the child’s emotional, intellectual, and physical needs. When a child’s development comes at stake, the importance of parent-teacher communication becomes altogether more important.
There are no set guidelines for what should be included in a classroom newsletter, but here are some fair ideas that you can include in yours, depending on the kind of information that you want to give out to the parents –
Announcement of forthcoming events
Invitations to class events or open-house meetings
Reminders
Lists of things that parents should collect or save for class projects
Thank you notes for the families who are helping out
Descriptions of study units and suggestions for ways to complement units at home
Library Schedule
Reprints of papers that you think are interesting and should be read
Explanations of rating policies, standardized assessments, and other ways of measuring and reviewing student performance
Explanations of expectations of conduct and effects of misbehavior
Highlights of community resources such as museum displays, plays, concerts, or television shows
Children’s writing and works of art
News about classroom outings and celebrations
We will be setting PLC commitments and will discuss what this time will look like for your grade level.
