ABSTRACT

Financing: Coordination for the Training of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, in portuguese)

Project Description: The governance of the Blue Amazon is permeated by complex interactions between different actors. For this reason, it requires innovative methods that are adequately capable of connecting research in the applied social sciences, social sciences and natural sciences. This project aims to review, compile, analyze and propose interdisciplinary methods and practices already tested in the socio-environmental field and to select results and criteria that are more suitable or fruitful for application in solving current problems of coastal and marine environmental management. These methods must be able to strengthen the interface between different areas of knowledge, taking into account global agendas such as the Decade of the Ocean (from 2021 to 2030), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda (from 2015 to 2030) and the All Atlantic Initiative, all adapted to the Brazilian context. The general objectives are to train qualified human resources in the different regions of the country and to improve the sustainable governance of the Blue Amazon in the management of issues such as fishing, mineral and biological resources, marine spatial planning (MSP), coastal management, blue economy, marine pollution and climate change. The methods will include those dealing with public policies, differentiated institutional arrangements for the management of coastal and marine environments and the assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services for these environments.
