Participate in reading group activities.
Here is a fun, imaginative poem about a crocodile going to the dentist!
Photograph and then read this poem aloud onto Seesaw. Glue it into your poetry book.
Those not participating can do online Soundwaves spelling activities for Unit 23
Write 2 paragraphs about this bedroom, by showing, not telling. You may like to use words from a one-minute challenge – then organise what paragraph it fits into by numbering ideas that go together.
Paragraph 1 - physical description – use your senses. Include adjectives, strong verbs, adverbs and at least one simile or metaphor.
Paragraph 2 – what would I do there?
Details should be in a logical sequence. Put information that belongs together about a topic in the same paragraph.
10 minutes sustained writing – Write paragraphs to describe the messy bedroom – show, don’t tell.
Various students to read out what they wrote. Peer assess using class rubric, and using Two Stars and a Wish
You may want to map out a sensory chart like this to help you.
Can you count something that is less than 1?
What about if you are running a 1 kilometre race, and someone stops part way through the race. How far might they have run?
Take a coloured strip of paper and fold it in half, and then cut it into two pieces.
Now look at a number line and label the beginning with a 0 and the end with a 1. Lay the two pieces of your coloured strip on top of a number line, and write 1/2 as a counting number in the middle of the number line.
Take a different coloured strip of paper. Fold it in half, and then in half again. Then cut along the folds and lay your pieces out on another number line. Label the different points between 0 and 1.
Do the same thing with a third strip of coloured paper. Only fold the strip in half, in half again, and in half yet again. Then cut along the folds and lay your pieces out on another number line. You have 8 equal parts from the whole strip. They are called eighths.
Use your fraction bars to make five eighths above the number line. Then label the points between 0 and 1.
Students to practise using different fraction bars on the number lines and identifying what fractions they are with the teacher.
When you are confident that you understand what we are learning, you can have a go at completing some task cards that are around the room.
Closure - review what we have learnt in this lesson, and complete an exit ticket given by the teacher.
Complete fraction workstation activities.
