What is special or unique about nature in Australia? Do you know any things that might be different from the rest of the world?
Your teacher will share a book about Australian nature with you.
(One of these Why I Love Australia / Collecting Colour / Malu Kangaroo / For All Creatures).
Remember back to last term when we talked about Word Wizards and how an author takes a long time choosing words to make their writing as good as possible. Think about the words that the author used in the book.
Choose one page from the book.
Copy it into your Literacy book, and then explain why the words used are good words to describe that animal.
Can you think of some different character values that you see in this book, or ones that you might like to demonstrate as a result of reading this book? Share with your class.
Here is a review of our vocabulary words for this week.
Tender means gentle or not tough. Meat can be described as tender. The way a mother talks to her baby can be described as tender.
Spiral means something that winds around in a circle that is getting bigger or smaller. The lines that curl around on a snail's shell are a spiral.
Stealth means without anyone seeing you, a bit like "sneaky". A lion uses stealth to try and catch its prey without being noticed until it is sure it will be able to catch its dinner.
Stalk - to stalk its prey means that the lion is following its prey, getting ready to catch it.
Then complete the worksheet below.
Remember that a verb is a word that tells us the action in a sentence. Can you think of some verbs that describe how the different animals from our book For All the Creatures might move?
Read through the Focus and Extension words and segment the words into your Segmenting Words book. Check your answers with the Segmenting Word tool from the Soundwaves site located on the home page of the Year 3 Website.
