In order to promote a classroom where everyone can learn, we decided to describe what an ideal classroom would look like, sound like, and feel like. We based this off of our previous experiences in classrooms as learners. We then came up with a list of norms, or agreements that we would like to see upheld in our classroom. After that, we took a vote. The top five norms were voted as most important to us. We will do our best to uphold these norms in our room.
"The class norm I picked was HONEST. I chose this norm because I feel that our class should be honest about our opinions and discussions that we have. The class would be better also if we have honesty towards each other and the teacher." --Zaire B.
"The way I can help create a mature environment in this class everyday is by making sure that I am being responsible and respectful around my peers, and hopefully my peers follow in my footsteps. I am hoping to be an example to my classmates. Being mature is very important because we need to know how to deal with certain situations. There are adults who are not mature so for us to do just that will set us on a positive pathway." --Tamia Riley
"The norm I picked is focused, and I picked this because we need to know the topic we are learning about and the only we learn is focusing on what the teacher is teaching about the topic. Also, by being focused, you can get deeper into what you are learning, and understand it more. Just because the teacher is teaching doesn't mean she knows everything about the topic, but if we all focus, then we can learn from each other." -- Rashayah Bishop
