Essential Question: How do government and business decisions impact my neighborhood? How can I be a part of those decisions?
Problem Frame: Civil Rights Activists during the 1960’s believed that segregated neighborhoods would lead to government officials providing these neighborhoods with different levels of service, including education, health, job opportunities, safety, among other aspects of life,, to black and white neighborhoods. Nearly 50 years later, research has shown that American neighborhoods continue to be segregated despite legislative attempts to prevent it. As a result, quality of life within segregated communities looks very different.
What can communities do to prevent oftentimes institutional cycles leading to inequities in neighborhoods?
