Week's Objective: Students will prepare for and participate in a discussion analyzing the decisions, practices, and behaviors that have led to mass incarceration and the effects that mass incarceration has had on communities of color. (SS 1.2, SS 1.3, ELA 7.1, ELA 7.2)
Monday, December 16th: Using their notes from the movie and the notes provided by the teacher below as a supplement, students will work in groups of 4 to discuss and analyze the impact that personal bias, government decisions, business practices, and media portrayal has had in causing the issue of mass incarceration (SS 1.2; ELA 7.1). Students will create a poster organizing information into these 4 categories.
Tuesday, December 17th and Wednesday, December 18th: Students will be given potential discussion questions that they can use to prepare for Thursday's discussion on mass incarceration (ELA 7.1). Students will also be asked to create norms for their discussion groups (ELA 7.2).
