MMTS - What they are

A MMTS is not:

  • A digital worksheet
  • A digital scavenger hunt
  • A document with a bunch of links

What is a Multimedia Text Set (MMTS)?

It's a means of delivering content about a topic to students through a variety of media (text, images, music, sound, video, cartoons). The different medias appeal to the various learning styles of your students and differentiation can be built in through the careful selection of content for student to explore.

MMTS can be used to "offload" the content of a traditional lecture, provide a preview of the next unit's content, background for a novel study, and more!

As students explore the content, optimally, there should be a few tasks embedded that facilitate the exploration and interaction with the content, that helps them reflect on what they're learning, and explain their thoughts/thinking about the content. The activities should also engage students and promote inquiry.

MMTS can be completed alone, but partnering is highly recommended.

SAMR / 4 C's

The SAMR level for student use of an MMTS depends on the embedded activities, but generally won't rise above Augmentation. Higher level applications of SAMR should NOT be a part of the MMTS. Instead, those reside in a HyperDoc.

Critical Thinking / Collaboration / Communication / Possibly Creativity

The Barrow County School System is developing a vetted library of MMTS and HyperDocs, which are aligned to our curriculum and meet our established standards for a quality and engaging learning experience.

Before applying for this badge, your MMTS must first be submitted, evaluated and accepted for publication.

The library is in its infancy stage right now, but more content will be added soon.

Do I Need To Create It From Scratch?

Your MMTS does NOT need to be an original creation. If you find a MMTS that already existed and you adapted it to meet your needs, you may submit it, but please be sure to give credit to the original creator!

Exemplars will be published to the BCSS HyperDocs Library
