Overview:

In the twenty-first century, the world has become a small village, and the water or oxygen of this small village is the energy. Energy is the main block to building a modern nation. Energy is at the heart of almost all human activities like transportation, communication, heating, cooling, manufacturing, food processing, water treatment, building, waste disposal, …etc. We can never imagine what life will look like without the huge amount of energy that is available at our disposal whenever we need it. Since the modern world is divided into nation-states, each one is responsible to maintain a secure flow of energy needed for its growth and needed by its people to use. There are many energy sources, but they are not distributed equally, therefore, energy sources could be considered as potential conflicts. We at Redento believe in the international order and cooperation between states to achieve their legitimate goals of advancement and prosperity. We also disagree with the famous Machiavellian phrase “the ends justify the means”, this disagreement comes from a firm position that we are not allowed to destroy the planet to maintain our secure flow of energy. Our energy policy has been built based on a realistic green approach that tries to balance the growing need for energy and the serious environmental threats. We are against the weaponization of energy sources because it might lead to severely dangerous situations like a new world war.

Available Resources:

Even though Redento is not a rich land of fossil fuels and does not have the nuclear power generation technologies available, Redento has the most precious resource, its people. We at Redento believe that energy is beyond the limited natural resources. The future of energy could be strongly linked to education, innovation, and creativity. It might seem impossible today to fully rely on renewable energy sources, but we firmly believe in our people’s minds and hard work to accomplish this mission and gift the world with new technologies that bring human civilization to a new era.

Energy Independence:

There is no doubt that maintaining the flow of energy is a national security issue. Many politicians and leaders believe that in order to enhance their national security, they must work towards the goal of reaching energy independence. For a state, to be energy independent, it must secure all of its energy supplies within its borders, in other words, an energy independent state should not import anything related to energy production. The main problem with this vision is that many states around the world can never reach a state of independence energy-wise. This vision also will destabilize the international system because powerful states will more likely try to acquire new lands that are rich with natural resources. Therefore, it will ignite the fuse of endless wars and conflicts and destroy the international order, and then, it will worsen the energy problem. We at Redento believe in a different solution, an inclusive one that guarantees energy supply and promotes stability and prosperity. We believe in energy interdependence.

Energy Interdependence:

Energy interdependence is a logical product of liberal ideology in international relations. The cornerstone of liberals’ view on international relations is that it must be built based on cooperation and mutual benefits rather than competition. Even though it is impossible sometimes to reconcile a conflict of interests, interdependence is the right way to minimize such cases. Energy interdependence relies on the famous capitalistic rule of comparative advantage. Comparative advantage means that someone has the ability to make or produce a commodity or service at a lower cost than the trading partner. Therefore, energy interdependence takes place when energy is supplied by whoever has the comparative advantage in return for supplying another commodity or service by the trading partner where that partner has a comparative advantage. In this case, both partners will fulfill their needs at a lower cost than if each one fulfilled them locally. There is one condition that must be added to the notion of energy interdependence to avoid fluctuation which is diversifying the energy supply sources. Another point that makes energy interdependence a better solution than energy independence is that it allows those energy interdependent states to have more tools to use in foreign policy. We at Redento are lacking the traditional energy supplies like fossil fuel, but we are planning to invest in future energy supplies, mainly in green energy supplies like solar, hydropower, and geothermal power generation. In our efforts to build and advance our nation-state, we will also make sure to build an energy interdependent international community, which in return, will promote stability and prosperity throughout Zemia.

Environmental Issues:

The main challenge that all countries throughout Zemia are facing today is climate change. Climate change is causing and will continue to cause severe natural disasters until we become united to solve many problems. Most of those problems are strongly related to the world of energy. As part of our ambitious plan, we will work as hard as possible to bring all countries together to discuss and share expertise and come up with practical solutions in order to stop feeding the real monster, climate change. If we fail to achieve a collaborative plan, this monster will destroy all of us.

Conclusion:

Redento will be a technology oasis in the energy business, leading the world towards sustainable and clean energy sources. We believe at Redento that this vision will inspire other nations to follow our steps in saving the planet that we live in and recognize the seriousness and the huge size of the current environmental threats. After we gain international recognition for our independent state, Redento’s successful plan and then the success story will set an example for those who do not have much of natural resources and encourage them to invest in their people and contribute to the twenty-first century’s technologies and innovations. Prosperity through cooperation and fair trade will be our slogan. By promoting energy interdependence and building an international coalition to combat the serious environmental threats, Redento, the small size state, will contribute to enhancing global peace and prosperity.
