"From Ashes We Rise, Together We Stand"
The Daka Pass is home to the indigenous people of the region, the Dinuit (Dakkan) people. They have long resented the anglicization of their tribal name by the nation of Dacca.
It is also the home to the most productive phosphorus mines in Zemia. The Daka Pass mines account for 90% of Zemian phosphorus and because of the farming dependence on it for producing fertilizers, it is the primary source of revenue for the Disputed Territories.
Lastly, it is home to the sacred path to the Holy City. Pilgrimage through Daka Pass is a privilege, not a right in Redento.
General Facts:
The Redentore population lives in the remote, mountainous region between Dacca, Cavan, and Donethal. There are three distinct groups of residents: Dinuit Tribes in the north, Zemani pilgrims to the west, and Tempran farmers to the east.
Most residents in the western region descend from Zemani religious pilgrims who sought a simpler life and stricter adherence to Zemani texts than Donethal's oil-seduced leaders. The eastern portion is inhabited by farmers and herdsmen that follow the Tempran faith and similarly fled the poisonous consumerism found in Dacca. The two sects have found a friendly collaboration in their shared return to small communities, and simple but transcendental connection to faith and land.
For centuries, Dacca and Donethal alternated claims over parts of the region, but borders were never settled. Two decades ago, maritime Cavanians coordinated military attacks with the Redento Rebels against the two powers. After five years of bloodshed, Cavan negotiated secession terms which were approved by both countries and the Zemia Security Council.
Redentorians do not accept cease-fire terms (which included Donethal’s free passage to a sacred site within the territory) and continue to fight for autonomy over the territories, making their claim in a variety of ways across Zemia.
The Sanctum includes the the High Holy city and the western regions of Redento and is inhabited by Zemani devout pilgrims. The Holy City is the site of many faiths over thousands of years, including ancient pagans, Bassylarians, Zemani (the historical founders of Zemia), and, more recently, the Tempran Faithful.
As a spiritual center to many nations, it has also been the site of political controversy, with several nations laying claim to its spiritual heritage. Conflict over claim to the city has caused the deaths of thousands in decent decades.
Dacca and Donethal’s dispute over the city was disrupted by the local residents’ armed resistance--now called the Disputed Territories by Dacca, and Redento by the local rebels.
This historic city has no food, material, or energy value, but has the most spiritual value of any place in Zemia. The city residents depend on the other regions in Redento for support, which they gladly provide.
The western regions have several small communities of Zemani faithful who practice strict adherence to Zemani text and limit technology and consumerism. All residents are trained to work, worship, and defend the land.
The Tempran Highlands is a small region of ex-corn agribusinesses that joined the resistance against Dacca.
To help employ local residents, the corn farms switched cultivation from automated to manual harvest. While this has enabled a strong sense of community and comradery, the farms are not profitable.
An additional challenge is that the corn farms are based on the original hybrid seeds which are highly susceptible to drought and storm damage. To compensate for fluctuating revenue, the residents developed cattle and livestock businesses which have become successful, particularly the Redento's famous Ragyu beef.
