Nation of Prenza Energy Brief
Created by: Andrew Slade
A progressive approach to energy is one of the stalwarts of the modern Prenza government. Prenza has taken advantage of many green, sustainable, energy efforts to keep the beautiful land of Prenza enjoyable for all of our citizens. Too often in capitalist societies the environment is casted aside and profit for energy companies is chosen instead. It is this offense that the government of Prenza looks to avoid.
Energy is a huge issue for any nation, it is the backbone that keeps the machines running for all industries. To do this in an economically efficient and environmentally safe way is a very difficult but very important job of any nation's government. Too often nations focus on the economically efficient part of the equation and do drastic harm to the environment. In this scenario any minimal gain in economic efficiency does not outweigh the damage done to environmental and ecosystem health. The nation of Prenza though has noticed this and made it a top priority to have an economically efficient and environmentally safe energy system.
The government of Prenza has established itself a branch of the government dedicated to Energy policy. We have done this to make sure that this important industry does not escape the strong oversight of the Prenza people’s government. To ensure this, a little over 44% of the energy department’s staff works on our regulations enforcement team. The regulations enforcement team's job is to ensure that Prenza’s industries and citizens are using sustainable energy as much as possible and helping industries understand how sustainable energy is best utilized. The regulations enforcement also makes sure industries and citizens aren’t exceeding the strict limitation guidelines for non-sustainable energy use, such as petroleum. If a citizen or industry is found to exceed use of this type of energy a report will be filed and the violators could face consequences such as a substantial fine, loss of license to work in that industry or even imprisonment.
While the regulations enforcement team is one part of the energy branch, there is alse two other teams. The next team is the progressive solutions team. The job of the progressive solutions team is to work with each other and our innovators from the tech plains area to come up with new sustainable solutions to energy in Prenza. The maintenance team is the third part of the energy branch and their job is to maintain and fix any issues that may arise with our current means of energy.
The Energy division of Prenza runs on these three sustainable energy pillars: Hydro, Solar and Wind energy. Hydro energy for prenza uses our waterways such as the Ria border river to provide energy. Next, Prenza has taken initiative and invested heavily in solar technology due to its reliability and effectiveness. With Wind energy, Prenza has built many windmills on land but also has expanded its efforts to build windmills off the coast in the South Tamaran Sea where the wind can be much more consistent and thus provide more energy. While these are the pillars to our energy system, the nation of Prenza continues to look to improve these. We are also looking at many other sustainable energy solutions to add to our current ones. These include efforts such as Geothermal and Bioenergy. While the government of Prenza isn’t confident enough at this time to add Geothermal and Biomass energy to the three pillars, the progressive solutions team is constantly working with innovators from the Tech Plains area of Prenza to make sure these efforts would yield positive results for our nation if added in the future.
The reason progressive action towards energy like this is warranted is because the opposite course of action can lead to inefficient use and ecosystem catastrophe such as what we’ve seen with the BP Oil Spill and worldwide Climate Change. Choosing sustainable energy would save the environment of Prenza allowing all of our citizens to fully enjoy our beautiful land. The Union of Concerned Scientists in the US wrote an article detailing the dangers of current energy use versus sustainable energy use. The article states, "Most of these negative health impacts come from air and water pollution that clean energy technologies simply don’t produce. Wind, solar, and hydroelectric systems generate electricity with no associated air pollution emissions. Geothermal and biomass systems emit some air pollutants, though total air emissions are generally much lower than those of coal- and natural gas-fired power plants. In addition, wind and solar energy require essentially no water to operate and thus do not pollute water resources or strain supplies by competing with agriculture, drinking water, or other important water needs. In contrast, fossil fuels can have a significant impact on water resources: both coal mining and natural gas drilling can pollute sources of drinking water, and all thermal power plants, including those powered by coal, gas, and oil, withdraw and consume water for cooling.” The article also states, “The air and water pollution emitted by coal and natural gas plants is linked with breathing problems, neurological damage, heart attacks, cancer, premature death, and a host of other serious problems.”. This shows that non-sustainable energy use can not only affect the environment but can severely damage the health of citizens in the surrounding area.
Energy and its safe and effective use is one of the top priorities for any modernized nation. Effective sustainable use can help the health of citizens, the environment and its surrounding ecosystems. The nation of Prenza prides itself on our shared resources and thus will not allow improper energy consumption to destroy this. Prenza will continue to be one of the leading nations of Zemia in green and sustainable energy.
