Happy Homecoming!!!

This has been a great week leading up to our Homecoming parade, game, and dance. It has been awesome to see a significant increase in student and staff participation in our events and dress up days this week; we love the school spirit that this week brings.

We hope our school community can join us tonight for our annual Homecoming Parade. The parade starts at 4:45pm and travels through downtown Hartland and up to South campus! It is great to celebrate our students, student groups, community groups, and our school community as a whole. Full information on today's parade is listed below!

Tonight, join our RED OUT and support our football team as they take on Brookfield East, enjoy performances from our amazing AHS bAnd and Hawkettes, and eat all the candy you get from the parade!

It’s important for students to check their Flex app each morning to ensure they’re in the right Resource location. If students are marked absent from Zero hour it is because they went to the wrong classroom, those absences will count toward their State allowed absences for the year. Please remind them to double-check their schedules!

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Wednesday, October 30th in classrooms from 4:30 - 7:30 pm at both campuses. A Skylert will be sent closer to October 30th listing the teachers and their room location for that evening as it may differ from the location on your child(ren) Skyward schedule.

There is no sign up for conferences. In response to feedback from previous conferences, we hope that the unscheduled time and access to teachers in classrooms is found beneficial.

We ask that you please print and/or view your student’s schedule ahead of time so you know which teachers you want to speak with. You are also welcome to bring your student(s) with you. There will be refreshments at each campus in the cafeteria.

2024-25 NHS Tutoring

Each semester, National Honor Society members will be offering tutoring during resource period and after school. Tutoring during resource periods will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the North Campus library. SEE THE TUTORS AND SCHEDULE LINKED HERE

Student who want to see a tutor during Resource period must schedule themselves for the NC Library Resource in FLEX. Tutoring will take place in the independent study section of the library near the computers (marked with purple labels).

Tutoring after school will take place in the same location, unless the space is being used by a different group. If this is the case, tutors can move to a different section of the library.

Emergency WEATHER Information

Greetings AHS Families and School Community,

It is that time of the year when school cancellation procedures need to be reviewed. When school is canceled it means all school-related activities (athletics, co-curricular clubs, performances, etc.) are canceled for that day and evening, unless different information is communicated directly from an Arrowhead staff member or coach. There are times when things may clear up enough that later afternoon/evening events may still take place.

Every effort is made to communicate a cancellation as far in advance as possible. Typically, the automated “Skylert” message will occur between 4:30-5:30 AM. Families are notified of school cancellations through the communication channels listed below:

The decision to cancel school involves gathering information from various national and local weather services, neighboring school districts, and local resources (Dousman Transportation, Dept. of Transportation, law enforcement, etc.). The condition of local streets, school district facilities and grounds, busing services, and projected timing of the inclement weather are all considered before a decision is made.

The decision to cancel school is always made to ensure the health and safety of our students, parents, and staff. If school is NOT canceled, parents may determine the weather conditions are too risky. Please remember to contact the office to report the absence, so it can be recorded as excused.

AHS REFERENDUM INFORMATION

Arrowhead High School

is asking our community to consider

two referendum questions on November 5th.

The $1.9 million operating question has an annual tax impact of $2 per $100,000 of equalized property value. In 2020, AHS voters approved a $1.7 million operating referendum to exceed the state revenue limits. This authority expires June 30, 2025. The $1.9 proposed referendum would replace the budget gap left by the expiring $1.7 million question.

The approval to construct a new, single building for Arrowhead High School that will cost an estimated $261.2 million. The estimated tax impact of the new high school is $191 per $100,000 of property value. This ask would replace two aging and deteriorating buildings which require repairs and maintenance (not improvements) of $53 million over the next 10 years, and an estimate $143 million over the next 25 years. Adjusting for the cost of construction inflation (estimate 40% over the past 6 years), this investment is similar to other recently constructed Wisconsin high schools (e.g., Verona, Neenah).

The new facility would provide:

Significantly enhanced safety and security
Elimination of costly, inefficient, duplicate spaces
New 8-lane competition pool also for community use
1,000-seat auditorium also for community use
Improved and modern indoor spaces for academic, co-curricular, and community programming
Flexible classrooms and labs with advanced technology and collaboration spaces
Minimal impact on learning activities during construction as it would be built around the current buildings to allow learning to continue without displacement

Hello, Arrowhead Community!

Homecoming week! Choosing the perfect dress and ordering the right flowers all add to the excitement of budding relationships - but the week of Homecoming is more than that. This week at Arrowhead is filled with activities that celebrate school spirit, reinforce pride in the traditions and values of a school, and strengthen the bond between students, alumni and the community. Homecoming week is a reflection of our community values.

The Arrowhead District community is no different than our surrounding communities - Oconomowoc, Kettle Moraine, Hamilton Sussex - in the values we subscribe to and the priorities in which we take pride. We value the strength of our police and fire departments, our local merchants and service providers, our parks and recreational facilities, availability of expedient and quality healthcare and the availability of places of worship. And, we value and take pride in our local schools.

Arrowhead has a long-established identity in the community: we are known for our “Tradition of Excellence.” This identity arises from longstanding student achievement in academics, technology, athletics, and the arts. It also arises from a thoughtful approach that fosters an environment that promotes critical thinking, hard work and community-minded citizens of tomorrow.

For many years, our neighboring communities have signaled their value of education by making significant large-scale investment in their schools. Our community has not. When investment in a value diminishes, the thing of value runs the risk of diminishment. The translation to our school may mean our future inability to compete and offer the best to our students.

Our community is being asked, through referenda on November 5, to invest in Arrowhead High School. To better understand the history and rationale behind the investment being asked of community members, it is imperative that the community be informed. Please attend one of the Referendum Information Nights: October 16th, 22nd and 28th at 6pm at the South Campus Cafeteria. Spend time on our Referendum page on the Arrowhead website (arrowheadschools.org/referendum/ .) Schedule a facility tour or reach out with questions to members of our administrative team.

AHS Wind Ensemble Recognition

We are happy to announce that the AHS Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform at the Wisconsin Concert Band Association conference on Friday, January 17, 2025 at UW-Whitewater. The concert starts at 7:00p and is open to the conference attendees, families, and the general public. More specific information to follow as we get closer.

This is a tremendous honor as only four outstanding high school bands will be performing from across the state. This marks the 4th time the AHS Wind Ensemble has performed at this conference since 2010.

HEALTH CAREER FAIR

On October 3rd, approximately 140 students from the Health Occupations class attended a Healthcare Career Expo. We had 17 professionals from a variety of healthcare areas available to share about their careers and answer students’ questions. The students not only gained valuable information, but also got to practice their handshake and introducing themselves using an elevator pitch to help start the conversations. We are so appreciative of the professionals who spent the morning with us!

Engineering Design and Development

Class Tour

Juniors and seniors in our capstone Engineering Design and Development class toured Milwaukee Tool in Brookfield on Friday, October 4th to see how they design, innovate, prototype and market their products. This trip complemented what they are currently doing in the classroom as they work through the design process with some of their own ideas. They also learned what a future career in engineering could look like.

FEEDING AMERICA FOOTBALL FOOD DRIVE !!!

Arrowhead narrowly defeated Oconomowoc for the third straight time in the Football Food Drive! In total, the week long competition provided over 18,000 meals! Thank you to EVERYONE for supporting such an important cause.

PARENT INFORMATION

JUNIOR/SENIOR WARS

“Junior/Senior Wars” have returned and we anticipate many AHS students will be participating. These activities are in no way approved, sponsored, or supported by Arrowhead High School.

Unfortunately, what began as a relatively harmless tradition has evolved into participants pushing boundaries that can result in a law enforcement response. These “wars” have involved students trespassing/vandalizing other students' homes, cars, driveways, etc. Students drive around our community well after curfew hours (10:30 pm - 5:00 am), throwing toilet paper into trees, littering yards, and writing graffiti on driveways and sidewalks. This activity often occurs outside in a public setting and at a student’s residence. Law enforcement response is likely to occur after a citizen complaint regarding the following violations: trespassing, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, noise complaints, car accidents, etc.

For reference, in a previous year, the Village of Hartland Police Department investigated a hit-and-run incident during these events. Local law enforcement agencies also investigated extensive damage to homes, vehicles, etc.

Depending on the citizen complaint and circumstance, law enforcement response can/will result in a citation, criminal charge referral, and/or arrest. We highly encourage all parents/guardians to have a conversation regarding appropriate behavior while participating in “Junior/Senior Wars.”

The Wisconsin Education Fair (WEF) will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16th from 6 to 8pm in the North Campus Commons. The WEF will have over 90 post secondary institutions on site for Arrowhead students and families. Do not miss this once a year opportunity!

A representative from Jostens will be here on Tuesday, October 22 during A & B lunch in the North Campus Theater to talk to the Seniors about ordering their cap and gowns for graduation.

Arrowhead implements Securly Filter, a filter and security service to keep our students safe and focused on their school work. Parents and guardians will receive a weekly email after school begins from Securly.com that will show you a snapshot of your child’s online activity while on our network.

If you do not receive an email, your student does not have information to report at this time. If you do not receive an email by mid-September, please contact Securly directly at help@securly.com

To receive your student’s full online activity history, you can create an account in the free Parent Portal. The Parent Portal will contain an Activity Tab, a Flagged Tab, and an Accounts Tab. The parent portal you create will provide you additional information on your student’s online activity.

If you do not wish to receive that weekly email from Securly, simply click on the unsubscribe button in the bottom left corner of the email.

Updated Immunization Requirements

To better align with the national vaccine recommendations, the state of Wisconsin has recently updated the immunization requirements for school entry. These changes are effective for the 2024-2025 school year and will impact all students entering 12th grade. Please follow this link to see the Immunization Changes.

Please note that all students entering 12th grade will need the Meningococcal vaccination. Due to the timing of these changes, current students will only need 1 dose of the Meningococcal vaccination prior to the first day of the school year. As most pediatricians have been made aware of this upcoming change and follow the state's immunization schedule, your student may have already received this vaccination. Please check with your physician to see if your student has been immunized.

As a reminder, Wisconsin law requires parents/guardians to provide updated records on their student's immunizations. To update us on your student's immunization or waiver status, please fill out the Wisconsin Immunization Record Form. To meet compliance requirements a student needs to have received the vaccination OR a family can sign a waiver to exempt their student from this requirement. Both options are included on the Immunization Record form. Please complete either steps 2 and 5 of this form for vaccination status OR complete the waiver section in Step 4. Your signature in step 5 is required for both options. Students must be in compliance with the required immunizations on the first day of school.

Please direct any questions on the new immunization schedule to your student's physician or the Waukesha County Public Health Department.

Direct Admit Wisconsin offers are posted to Skyward Student Access and you can now log in to view Direct Admit Wisconsin offers. Look for the “Portfolio” tab on the left side menu to view your letter from the Universities of Wisconsin.

You may have questions about direct admission or you might be ready to select your UWs. Please join our students and staff on Friday, October 11th for our Annual Homecoming Parade. If you would like to have a float in the parade, please complete this Participation Form by Wednesday, October 9th. In addition, here is the Parade Route. PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP BEFORE 4:00; if you arrive before 4:00 you will be asked to move as the elementary school on the route needs room for their buses to enter and exit. We look forward to celebrating this great community event!

Location: Arrowhead’s North Campus - Enter in Door 1

Students must have both a student ID and ticket to enter the dance. *If you lost your ticket or ID we have the ability to look it up but as this is time consuming, it is best that you bring your ticket and student ID with you to the dance.

Important Information:

If a student is bringing a guest from another school to the homecoming dance, they must have a GUEST FORM completed and turned into either office by 2:30 pm on Friday, October 11th. *Guest forms can be accessed at this LINK or in print at the front office of both campuses.

Students attending the dance may be subject to a random PBT (preliminary breath test) to detect any alcohol consumption.

Dance Rules:

At the dance the students need their ticket on their phone and student ID to enter.
You may want to have a screenshot of your ticket on your phone in case the wifi is working slowly.
Guests must also present a School ID.
No stilettos will be allowed on the gym floor.
There will be a mandatory, free coat check monitored by staff in the commons area.
Students may access their things from the coat check once throughout the dance.
Doors will lock at 8:30 PM. No one will be allowed to enter after that time.
Students will not be permitted to leave the dance before 9:00 PM.
Random Preliminary Breath Testing (PBT) will occur for students prior to entering the dance.

ADDITIONAL OR REPEATED PARENT INFORMATION AND UPDATES

Wisconsin State ACT 95

The state of Wisconsin recently passed ACT 95 which impacts Arrowhead High School in two different ways.

1) The ACT requires all public high schools to rank students by their GPA during their junior and senior years.

2) Students placing in the top 5% of their class receive guaranteed admission to UW Madison.

Students placing in the top 10% of their class receive guaranteed admission to all other schools in the UW system.

The stated intent from state lawmakers is an effort to keep students in Wisconsin and grow our own workforce.

Arrowhead has traditionally not ranked students but began, per state requirement, to rank students at the end of last year.

NEW BLOCK SCHEDULE

Students started school TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 in their HOMEROOM class for Resource Period.
A student's lunch aligns with their 3rd or 7th block class; if they are scheduled in the 3A or 7A block, they eat A lunch and if they are scheduled in the 3B or 7B block, they eat B Lunch.
The 8 minute passing period allows students to travel between buildings. Students remaining in the same building may use the restrooms, seek help from a teacher, grab a snack, or other needs so they're ready to engage in their next class.

Resource Period

Resource period will provide students access to teachers for support, enrichment, and connection on a daily basis. For students who do not need to see a teacher on any given day, the resource period can serve as a study hall. The resource period will be required attendance, unless stated by administration that certain grade levels are excused.
When a student is absent, the daily resource period will support students who missed class. Missing one day in a block schedule also means students do not miss any class time for half of their classes, as opposed to missing EVERY class under the current model. Further, the Canvas Learning Management System assists students with knowing what was taught in addition to providing access to resources/materials.

A/B Block Structure

A/B block provides students with the opportunity to take up to four classes a day on A days and up to four classes a day on B days (8 classes each semester).
We believe it is in our students’ best interests to take a study hall each semester, however students may still enroll in 8 classes per semester.
Students who wish to participate in FSO (Flexible Schedule Option) may still do so. The schedule for FSO will be every other day. Students with late arrival FSO must attend Resource period the first two weeks of school. After September 13th, they only need to attend when a teacher requests their presence and when we have an all school activity scheduled.
Students will have academic core classes (English, Math, Social Studies, Science) all year.
ALL AP courses will continue to have instructional minutes that exceed the College Board recommended minutes for instruction.
Some elective classes/required classes that are currently one semester will remain so while year long classes will remain year long.

Learning in the Block

85 minute classes will be divided into “chunks” of time, improving upon already well-designed lessons by our teachers. Block lessons provide ample time for review of previous lessons, guided practice, deeper “dives” into content, group work, active “hands on” learning, independent support and intervention.
The block of time supports building strong literacy skills, which is a focus of our continuous improvement plan.
Teachers will not be lecturing for 85 minutes. The A/B block supports deeper learning as opposed to mere coverage of topics.
The data from throughout the state of Wisconsin, as we have analyzed school achievement and schedules, shows several of the school districts that outperform AHS currently have a form of block schedule with a resource period.

As partners in education, we have the same goals for our students – we want them to achieve at the highest levels possible and be ready for the next stages of their lives. We want students to learn in a supportive environment and embrace all the opportunities high school offers. We can accomplish this shared vision in the new block schedule.

RED DAY / BLUE DAY CALENDAR

Each day will alternate RED/BLUE
If there is a snow day, the next day stays as scheduled, meaning, if we have a snow day on October 1st, a blue day, when we return on October 2nd we would maintain the red day already scheduled.
Lab Days - Identified by a yellow L. Students will have ALL 8 CLASSES. These days are used in times before exams to provide students access to all teachers prior to their midterms or final exams.
Exam Days- Identified in Green. Students will have three classes/exams on day 1, three classes/exams on day two, and two classes/exams on day three with the ability to complete retakes if necessary.

PARENT COMMUNICATION UPDATES

We are excited to announce two new communication features we want to share with our AHS families:

Emergency Text Messaging System

To receive our emergency text messages, please use your phone to opt in and text "yes" to the number 67587.
- If you have another child in one of our feeder districts, you may receive a message that you are already enrolled.
- If you do not opt in, we will do our best to use email and social media for communications as soon as possible.

Changes to Attendance/Absence Procedures for Parents

In an effort to create an easier and more efficient process for families to enter absences, AHS will be transitioning to using the Parent Access to Skyward for submitting student attendance. We still accept phone messages but it is our hope that the Skyward App becomes the main method of absence notification.

Arrowhead High School

Non-Arrowhead High School Sponsored Event or Activity Absence Exception Request

Linked here you will find the application forms to be completed by you and your child relating to a request to exempt absences when participating in non-Arrowhead High School sponsored events or activities. Due to the fact that many of these events/activities take place outside of Hartland as well as outside of Wisconsin, we have found that students who participate in these tend to miss a larger number of days than students who are participating in an event/activity sponsored by AHS. Please note that the school only has the authority to excuse these absences should it be identified as a gifted or talented opportunity. However, this information does help as our administration works through absences with our families.

Parents may excuse their students who miss school for a non-Arrowhead Sponsored Event as long as they are within the 10 days of absence allotted by the State of Wisconsin. Once the 10 days are met, students are marked as unexcused. An exemption in the missed day(s) can be granted if the student qualifies based on the application form linked above and team decision. An exemption means the absence does not count towards those 10 days.

AHS FUNDRAISING

AHS Programs Financial Support

School funding is always a challenging world to navigate. Each year, schools see a set of opportunities with costs associated with them that are unable to be funded by the current state funding and the AHS budget. We often have families with the means to support such opportunities who have expressed that there isn't an avenue to be made aware or to donate directly to a need. Each newsletter, we will list opportunities for our community to consider supporting. There is never an expectation, only an appreciation for considering.

Current Considerations

The Warhawk Rise Program - We are still looking for a committed benefactor who would like to support this great event! A new program we are developing at AHS that will recognize any student who has improved their grade point average by 1.0 or better from one semester to the next. (EX: from a 2.5 Fall semester to a 3.5 Spring semester) This is a significant achievement by students who put in great efforts toward success that may not always receive the recognition they deserve. The annual cost of this program runs about $4,000 each year and includes a semi-formal celebration brunch with their families invited and and gift bags recognizing their efforts. Arrowhead Scholarship Fund - This amazing program provides an incredible amount of scholarships each year thanks to the generosity of our community. Families and companies have the ability to provide direction as to how their scholarship would be decided and awarded. Please see the ASF Donor Webpage for more information!
