FROM THE DESK OF: Adam Kurth, Principal
Happy New Year to our AHS school and community. Only three days remaining in the first semester. As is said in other facets of life and holds true in education - Long days, short years.
We are proud to share that our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is up and running. There have been positive conversations surrounding the goals of the group. The foundational mission of the PTO will be shared in the near future along with events and activities that will reflect this mission and their beliefs. Arrowhead is thrilled to have this group of parents working to support our students, staff, and community!
Please consider being a part of the Arrowhead Scholarship Foundation's (ASF) Trivia Night! This night serves as one of the primary fundraisers for the ASF who provides hundreds of students with scholarships each year. Detailed information is posted below.
As your student(s) head into exams next week, please help them best prepare with a quiet area to study, a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. These approaches far outweigh long days and nights of unhealthy cramming when it comes to retention of learning. We fully believe our students are ready for this week and this is a great opportunity for our staff to assess where our students' learning is at, but we also keep in mind that no test defines our students or their futures. Every path to success and happiness looks different. Good luck to all our students!
We hope everyone has a warm-ish January. Welcome to second semester!
Adam Kurth
Principal, Arrowhead High School

ARROWHEAD HIGH SCHOOL
BOARD OF EDUCATION
Welcome to 2023, Arrowhead Community!
Your School Board begins the new year as it ended last year: actively engaged in initiatives that impact the direction of our school.
Looking ahead, our priority will be to address the retirement of Superintendent Laura Myrah. During her eight years of service at Arrowhead, she has played an integral role in student achievement and operations at our school. The Board thanks her for her commitment and wishes her every success in all future endeavors.
The superintendent search process will begin as soon as possible; the process and timeframe for candidate selection will be defined by the Board in the upcoming weeks. Please look for updates on this in future Arrowhead Advisors.
The Board will be examining the current communication devices (cell phones, smart watches) policy this month. To better inform board members in their decision making, a survey was sent to teachers in December, with the following results:
Results of related faculty survey.
The Board welcomes input from the school community as we may embark on policy change on the use of communication devices during school hours.
The Board has committed to a series of upcoming workshops, wherein members will define board roles, priorities, and goals and alignments with Arrowhead Administration. The outcome of this work will be published here in an upcoming Advisor.
Looking in the rearview mirror, the Board had a busy and impactful 2022. In addition to the usual school oversight activities, the Board also:
Met with Senator Chris Kapenga and Representative Cindy Duchow to discuss the detrimental impact on AHS of school funding/state revenue limits. Began discussions for legislative advocacy initiatives and potential referendum planning.
Engaged in significant policy creation:
362.1: Section 504 Plans
651: Student Name and Pronoun Use Authorization, encourages parental involvement in the names/pronouns used by students at Arrowhead
334: Transparency in Curriculum, requires the posting of instructional materials to Canvas
623: Open Enrollment, important revision related to Special Education
Voted to not proceed at this time with proposed A/B Block scheduling, following extensive discussion and review
Best wishes to all in our Arrowhead Community for good health, happiness and success in 2023!
"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.” - Edith Lovejoy Pierce

CELEBRATIONS!
DECA
Thank you for supporting our Arrowhead DECA chapter. On Saturday January 7, 2023 52 of our DECA chapter members competed against 18 other schools with over 600 students in a variety of marketing and business areas. Once again we showed the "Arrowhead Way" with outstanding performances including the best in districts. It isn't without your support and teaching to make this happen. Check out some of our accomplishments from Saturday. Link HERE
Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra!
Our students were treated to a charismatic conductor leading a masterful performance of holiday favorites by the MSO! Over 440 students were able to experience the grandeur of a full symphony right in our own auditorium and responded with rave reviews.
Later that night, our community experienced the same incredible show. Attendees shared "goosebumps," "permanent grins," and the "powerful emotions from hearing a symphony play holiday music live." We look forward to welcoming the MSO back next year!
Thanks again to all who attended and to Tiffany Cooley and WANTABLE for the event sponsorship and helping to bring MSO to AHS!
STUDENT SENATE GIVING TREE
Arrowhead Student Senate would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your contributions to this year's Giving Tree gift drive. Through the generosity of this amazing community, we were able to sponsor 21 children from seven different families spread throughout Waukesha County. Thank you for coming together and making sure area families had a Merry Christmas!
ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES
ATHLETIC HIGHLIGHTS
Girls Basketball - The team is playing strong and sitting at a 9-2 overall record and 5-2 in conference. Coach is impressed with the girls and their athleticism and how they play every day and every game. He is having fun!
Boys Basketball - The team is undefeated in conference play and has an 12-1 overall record! Coach frequently praises his team on their offensive and defensive play and how collectively they keep getting better. The guys are playing well because they are sharing the basketball on offense and have bought into playing hard on defense. Coach mentioned, "When we do those things we’re a tough team to beat.”
Girls Ice Hockey - The team has a record of 6-6 and are enjoying playing the game. The positive team atmosphere and playing competitively makes it fun.
Boys Ice Hockey - The boys are continuing their strong play. They can battle any team when they play hard and consistently. Coach is pleased with their continued effort to never give up. The team has a record of 10-3.
Wrestling - The team is doing well and continues to improve. The varsity team recently traveled to Indiana and placed 4th at that big invite. Coach is directing his team to stay focused, build and keep getting better.
Gymnastics - The team has competed in 4 meets and won their most recent home invite. Coach likes where the team is at right now but wants the team to keep pushing hard. He sees their potential and wants them to keep working to get better.
Boys Swim & Dive - The team is continuing their strong performances while keeping their training intensity at a high level. Their eyes are set on the end of the season and they are doing everything they can now to be in a competitive position at that time.
Alpine Ski - The team is looking to ski in their first race. The weather has not cooperated to allow for good ski conditions. The team is anxious to hit the hills.
DECA - The DECA chapter members recently competed against 18 other schools with over 600 students in a variety of marketing and business areas. Once again we showed the "Arrowhead Way" with outstanding performances including the best in districts.
Mock Trial - The team won their division in their most recent competition at Brookfield Central!

SENIOR PARTY
Senior Parents we need your help!
One of the BEST memories of your Senior’s high school days will be from the Senior Party. It is held the Friday before Graduation (June 2nd) and it is a huge event with kids enjoying tons of food, playing games and leaving the school with a LOT of AMAZING raffle prizes (TVs, Keurigs, dorm refrigerators, speakers etc!)
The kids have a blast but we need your help to make this another success!
We are looking for people that would be willing to lead the organization of the party. We also need volunteers to work with the following committees: food, decorations, entertainment, registration (someone that can do graphic work), and raffle.
Please complete this FORM to help us make the 2023 Senior Party the best yet!
CLASS of 2027 FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
We are again looking forward to hosting the annual Incoming Freshman Orientation Night on Wednesday, January 18th! We will be welcoming 8th grade families to the Arrowhead High School North Campus to learn about our school, registration, course selection and much more relevant information. Please click on the link below for additional information.
Second Semester Parking Information
Before second semester begins, we want to share Parking and FSO (flexible scheduling option) information with you in case it wasn’t relevant first semester.
PARKING (please use this link for fee information and if you haven’t registered for a parking permit)
The parking fee is $184 per school year and may be paid online. Fees are prorated throughout the year as follows:
November 7 - $138, January 23 - $92, April 11 - $46
Pay prorated fees in the North Campus Main Office or online.
Parking permits must be visible; facing out towards the windshield so the pass numbers can be seen by anyone outside.
If the permit is not visible or you don’t have a permit, you can receive a $20 ticket. If the $20.00 is not paid within 45 days (reminder given at 30 days), a municipal citation will be issued with a forfeiture of $100.
You can also be cited if you are found parking in an FSO or staff parking spot (FSO students may also be cited if they are parking in a regular parking spot if issued an FSO permit).
All parking permits are to be purchased at the North Campus Welcome Center located inside Door 1 of North Campus if not purchased at registration.
Students are allowed three temporary parking passes per semester. These can be obtained from the North and South Campus Welcome Center Greeters at the beginning of the day and must be visible; face up on the dashboard.
Students are NOT allowed to drive during the school day from one campus to the other and they are not allowed to leave campus during lunch. Students who are found driving during these times will have their parking permit revoked without reimbursement.
If you have any questions please contact the North Campus Welcome Center at x4225 or northgreeter@arrowheadschools.org
FSO
Please review the two linked documents below carefully. If you have any questions, contact your Counselor as FSO is scheduled through Guidance.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation with Parking and FSO expectations.
AHS Programs Financial Support
School funding is always a challenging world to navigate. Each year, schools see a set of opportunities with costs associated with them that are unable to be funded by the current state funding and the AHS budget. We often have families with the means to support such opportunities who have expressed that there isn't an avenue to be made aware or to donate directly to a need. Each newsletter, we will list opportunities for our community to consider supporting. There is never an expectation, only an appreciation for considering.
Current Considerations
The Warhawk Rise Program - We are looking for a committed benefactor who would like to support this great event! A new program we are developing at AHS that will recognize any student who has improved their grade point average by .75 or better from one semester to the next. (EX: from a 2.5 Fall semester to a 3.25 Spring semester) This is a significant achievement by students who put in great efforts toward success that may not always receive the recognition they deserve. The annual cost of this program runs about $4,000 each year and includes a semi-formal celebration brunch with their families invited and and gift bags recognizing their efforts. Please contact Principal Adam Kurth at kurth@arrowheadschools.com or North Counselor, Kelly Matthias at matthias@arrowheadschools.org to support.
Arrowhead Scholarship Fund - This amazing program provides an incredible amount of scholarships each year thanks to the generosity of our community. Families and companies have the ability to provide direction as to how their scholarship would be decided and awarded. Please see the ASF Donor Webpage for more information!
Need High Speed Internet?
The FCC has a new map showing where high speed service is - and is not - available across the country.
Make sure the National Broadband Map is accurate by checking your home or small business. Funding is available to provide high speed Internet in Wisconsin. Make sure your home is correctly represented here!
Wisconsin residents can take action:
Go to broadbandmap.gov
Type an address in the "Search by Address" bar
Review the list of providers and
If the information is not correct select "Availability Challenge"
Select the provider you wish to challenge
Complete the form and submit
To ensure valid challenges are incorporated into the map before federal funding allocations are made, the public are encouraged to submit challenges by January 13, 2023. Please spread the word.
