Happy Holidays to our school community!

AHS is heading into the holiday break in a great spot The students and staff are finding a strong learning rhythm in our new schedule, Resource Period has helped support all levels of learning and needs in our building, and we saw great success in our athletics, activities, and clubs. Our students have donated gifts in and around our community, given blood, supported an Asheville community in need, performed for our community, succeeded in academic and athletic competitions, as well as numerous other positive and impactful efforts.

We continue to grow and work to improve current challenges. We know our Flex scheduling program and associated attendance has been a challenge for faculty, students, and families. This continues to evolve to fit our needs. Our Board and administrative team have been working toward a possible referendum question in April to bring our students and services under one roof and improve safety and learning at a lower tax impact for our community. We will continue efforts to get better every day.

We hope all of our families enjoy a safe and relaxing break.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION

Save the date for all Incoming Freshman!

On Thursday, January 23rd @ 5:30 PM, AHS will be hosting our annual Freshman Orientation at our AHS North Campus. Rising freshman and their families will have the opportunity to hear from our staff and administration, learn about AHS and all of the opportunities available, and interact with AHS clubs and activities.

SEMESTER EXAMS

Just a reminder that semester exams will be conducted shortly after Winter Break! Exams will run Wednesday, January 22 - Friday, January 24. Please see the full schedule below. Also note both breakfast and lunch will be offered for purchase.

Exam Schedule

POTENTIAL NEW

START/END TIME

Beginning second semester, we are considering a shift in the start and end time of our school day five minutes earlier at 7:20 AM. Each day, our administration team and several other staff members commit approximately 30 minutes of our afternoon to managing campus traffic in order to ensure our buses can release by 2:45 PM. This is a necessary departure time to honor our part in a transportation contract with our seven feeder schools. While we have enjoyed our time interacting with our families, we are realizing with all other responsibilities this is not a viable long term solution.

In moving our day ahead five minutes, students and families would have time to clear our campus prior to the necessary bus departure time. This would also allow our students 15 minutes from the last bell to get to their bus, as opposed to the current 10 minutes. More information will be shared as it becomes finalized after break.

RESOURCE PERIOD ATTENDANCE

As stated in the November Arrowhead Advisor, it’s important for students to check their Flex app each morning to ensure they’re in the right Resource location (0 hour). If students are requested to attend a classroom by a teacher and they don't attend, they are marked absent. In addition, students should be signing up for a classroom if a teacher hasn't assigned them. If they don't sign up for a room, students are automatically placed and must go to that location for attendance purposes. Students can sign up for their Resource weeks in advance on their Flex app.

Absences from Resource will count towards attendance / truancy. Continued absences from any class can lead to conduct unbecoming of an athlete, if a student is in a sport or club. Please remind your student to double-check the app for an assigned location and if not assigned, they need to sign up for a location. Parents may receive a phone call stating your child was marked absent and this will be reflected in the 0 hour column on Skyward.

**Please Note: Resource Period and Homeroom are not the same - Homeroom is assigned for the year; Resource can change based on what a student signs up for and if a teacher assigns a student to their Resource Period **

2ND SHIFT SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

We are pleased to share that the Arrowhead School Board has approved the position and hiring of Deputy Riley Schmidt to serve AHS as a second shift School Resource Officer.

A pride point of AHS is the number of after school activities our students participate in. With the significant number of competitions, activities, and performances each evening, and the number of students, families, community members, and guests we host in conjunction, having an evening law enforcement presence on campus helps support the safety for all.

2024-25 NHS Tutoring

Each semester, National Honor Society members will be offering tutoring during resource period and after school. Tutoring during resource periods will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the North Campus library. SEE THE TUTORS AND SCHEDULE LINKED HERE

Student who want to see a tutor during Resource Period must schedule themselves for the NC Library Resource in FLEX. Tutoring will take place in the independent study section of the library near the computers (marked with purple labels).

Tutoring after school will take place in the same location, unless the space is being used by a different group. If this is the case, tutors can move to a different section of the library.

Emergency WEATHER Information

It is that time of the year when school cancellation procedures need to be reviewed. When school is canceled it means all school-related activities (athletics, co-curricular clubs, performances, etc.) are canceled for that day and evening, unless different information is communicated directly from an Arrowhead staff member or coach. There are times when things may clear up enough that later afternoon/evening events may still take place.

Every effort is made to communicate a cancellation as far in advance as possible. Typically, the automated “Skylert” message will occur between 4:30-5:30 AM. Families are notified of school cancellations through the communication channels listed below:

The phone number and email address you supplied during the online registration process are what is pulled by the Skyward/Skylert notification system for school cancellations and emergencies. Parents should update any phone number/address changes by clicking on "account" in the upper right corner when working in Skyward Family Access.

The decision to cancel school involves gathering information from various national and local weather services, neighboring school districts, and local resources (Dousman Transportation, Dept. of Transportation, law enforcement, etc.). The condition of local streets, school district facilities and grounds, busing services, and projected timing of the inclement weather are all considered before a decision is made.

The decision to cancel school is always made to ensure the health and safety of our students, parents, and staff. If school is NOT canceled, parents may determine the weather conditions are too risky. Please remember to contact the office to report the absence, so it can be recorded as excused.

Senior Anirudh Warrier was recently awarded the grand prize in the 11th and 12th grade division in the US Courts Fifth Annual Bill of Rights Day contest! 2025 GLOBAL CITIZEN SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

Sophomore Breanna Reed was named one of EF’s 2025 Global Citizen Scholarship winners and will be receiving a $1000 scholarship to use towards international travel. Breanna truly blew the scholarship board away with her insight, curiosity, passion, and unique perspective. MATH TEAM SUCCESS

The Math Team competed in their second competition and we are proud to announce their two stellar performances against many of the area schools. Over their first two meets the Varsity team has had two first place finishes and the Junior Varsity team had a second place finish.

Math team competitions consist of three individual tests and one team test where students work together. Students compete in teams of 8. Schools are allowed to bring multiple teams in each division. Each student can earn up to 10 points on an individual test and the team can earn up to 60 points on the team test. There are also Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions that are based on which math class the student is currently taking.

In October, the team took 21 students and traveled to Hartford where the Arrowhead Varsity 1 team took 1st place overall and the Varsity 2 team took 4th.

The team winning the tournament included Jason Brammeier, Gavin Dai, Jack Kantorowicz, Sammie Raddish, Rachel Raddish, Elsa Ratner, Yamato Takahashi, and Ani Warrier.

Individual awards were also given to Jason Brammeier and Varun Balla, who were amongst those that scored 30 pts (Perfect Papers) and tied for first. Ani Warrier, Rachel Radish, and Krishank Vangala each scored 25 points and were tied for third.

In November, 37 students traveled to Wisconsin Lutheran and continued the streak. We had a group of Freshmen compete in the JV competition for the first time this season. Their inexperience didn't show as they placed second overall. Team members include Keller Reagan, Max Dennis, Eliana Heinle, Violet Motz, Bryce Schaus, Sawyer Tews, Eve Timmerman, and Miya Zhang. Keller Reagan and Eliana Heinle were amongst those tied for first with perfect 30 point scores.

The Arrowhead Varsity 1 team again fended off the competition and brought home another 1st place trophy. Team members included Jason Brammeier, Varun Balla, Ani Warrier, Yamato Takahashi, Evan Brammeier, Gavin Dai, CJ Zehner, and Austin Patten.

Ani Warrier was the lone medalist with a third place finish, but the consistent scoring of the team and a perfect team test gave them the victory.

If you see these students, please congratulate them on their achievements. Their next competition will be in February.

ENGINEERING, MANUFACTURING & AUTO EDUCATION COMPETITION WINNERS

Arrowhead's Engineering, Manufacturing and Auto's education (@AHSTech&Engineering) has created a club team to participate in the SkillsUSA organization and competitions. They participated at Watertown High School in a district competition in their first competition. Students competed in Technical Drafting, Welding, Welding Fabrication, Woodworking Display, Auto Service Tech., Power Equipment Tech., and Cabinetmaking. They had a blast and performed amazingly!

Our goal is to celebrate the exceptional qualities and achievements of students who display dedication, leadership, academic excellence, and high-quality character within our school. Sijo Collaboration Artwork Display

Some of our top art students from last year had their Sijo collaboration artwork displayed at the Harold Washington Library in Chicago this past spring 2024.

This December, The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago is hosting an exhibition featuring artworks based on sijo poems by our talented students at the Art Gallery located within the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (9925 Capitol Dr, Wheeling, IL 60090). The exhibition will run from December 20th to December 30th, and an opening reception on Saturday, December 21st, at 3 PM. The Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday, 9 AM to 3 PM.

AHS for Asheville

On September 28th, Hurricane Helene struck western North Carolina, causing devastation in the community of Asheville. In response to this, community member Lin Sattell, and a group of students from NHS have started “AHS for Asheville”, a fundraising campaign for Hurricane Helene relief efforts. 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to Buncombe County School District, where they will be used on staff emergency assistant grants, graduation supplies/materials, and student field trips in the spring.

The initiative began with a Miracle Minute during a football game on October 11, 2024, resulting in the collection of almost $2000. Through brat frys, booths at Arrowhead events, and community contributions, AHS For Asheville has already raised over $11,000! The core leadership team was recently featured on Fox 6 News to highlight their successes thus far.

AHS For Asheville will continue to fundraise through sports events, Culver’s Nights, and business sponsorships. The group aims to raise $50,000 to donate to Buncombe County Schools.

AHS Student Senate would like to THANK those who donated food to the Student Senate Fall Food Drive. Both the North Lake Food Pantry and Hartland Food Pantry received approximately $2000 in food items which were available before Thanksgiving. The food is not only available on its own, but it’s also used in Baskets and Christmas Meals!

Another THANK YOU to everyone who was able to donate blood at the Annual Student Senate Winter Blood Drive Friday, December 6th. Below are the amazing results:

Arrowhead Scholarship Fund

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP SEASON!

In 2024, AHS Seniors were awarded 100 scholarships valued at $92,500 from the Arrowhead Scholarship Fund. The time to apply for 2025 is coming soon.

All seniors are encouraged to apply. ASF honors the achievements of well-rounded students who balance multiple activities including: academics, sports, clubs, work, volunteer hours and leadership. Scholarships are offered to students planning to continue their education at either two-year or four-year institutions. By completing one ASF application, your student will be considered for over 100 scholarships!

The ASF scholarship application will be available electronically December 18, 2024.

All seniors will be notified via email when the application opens. The application link will be posted on the Arrowhead Scholarship Fund website, under the “Students” header at www.arrowheadscholarshipfund.org. Applications are due February 7, 2025. Students will be notified in early May and presented with awards May 18, 2025 in the North Campus Theater.

Financial Aid Information Available

The 2025–26 FAFSA® form will be available on Dec. 1, 2024, for the award year that runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

Here are things you can do right now to prepare:

· Be sure to write down usernames, passwords, and security questions. This will save a lot of time/frustration later.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER HOSTED BY AHS STUDENTS

We wanted to share a special event happening December 19th during the Resource period in NC Junior Study Hall. As a part of the HOSA (Future Health Professionals) Competition team, fellow students Manasi Karthikeyan, Sophia Ball and Emery Cummins-Brown are covering the mental and physical health difficulties Veterans face post-service..

They have invited a special guest speaker from WWP (Wounded Warrior Project) Danielle Green who will be flying in from Florida to speak to our Arrowhead students. She has a fascinating story: she was an all class athlete (top 17 shooters in Notre Dame women's basketball history), after 9/11 decided to join the military, was injured by a rocket-propelled grenade, and had to relearn many basic tasks. Now, she is a Purple Heart recipient, won the ESPY awards in 2011, met the President, and currently collaborates with WWP to share her story around the nation. You can read more about her bio here.

It is an absolute honor for HOSA as well as Arrowhead High School and we look forward to greeting Danielle with open arms.

MULLETT EVENTS!

Fox 6 and CBS 58 visited the Mullett for their 4th annual Make-A-Wish Skate with Santa December 15th. They hit $100,000 in donations over the 4 events hosted at the Mullett! Fox had 4 Live segments. LINK to Page The 1st and 3rd segments mention the Mullett and AHS.

Wrestling

Girls wrestling team started their season off with wins over Kettle Moraine, Ocon and Waukesha North.

Boys wrestling team started their season off with wins over Kettle Moraine, CMH, Ocon and Waukesha North. They also wrestled well and won the Verona Invite! The team is young and talented and working hard under the direction of new head coach, Randy Ferrell. The girls team has a new coach as well, Kelly Movroydis.

Boys Swim

The team started their season with the Classic 8 Conference and Greater Metro Conference Swim & Dive Kick Off. They are working hard and looking forward to a good season!

Gymnastics

The team hosted their first meet at Arrowhead on Thursday against Franklin, Kenosha and Oak Creek. It was a GREAT first meet for the girls! Varsity won by 5 points and JV won by 10 points. They are looking forward to a fun season!

Boys Hockey

The team is off to a great start winning all 4 of their games. The team has a great mix of seasoned veterans and young talent. They are looking forward to a great season!

The team is off to a great start with a record of 6-2 already! The co-op team (players from Ocon, KM, Waterford, Hamilton, AHS) is young but brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy! They are looking forward to a great season!

The team is off to a great start with an overall record of 5-1, and a conference record of 2-1. The team returns a lot of talent and who have been joined by some new talent! They are young but they play with perseverance and toughness.

The team is young but talented! Despite an 0-3 record to start the season, they are talented and play with grit and look forward to a successful season.

Arrowhead implements Securly Filter, a filter and security service to keep our students safe and focused on their school work. Parents and guardians will receive a weekly email after school begins from Securly.com that will show you a snapshot of your child’s online activity while on our network.

If you do not receive an email, your student does not have information to report at this time. If you do not receive an email by mid-September, please contact Securly directly at help@securly.com

To receive your student’s full online activity history, you can create an account in the free Parent Portal. The Parent Portal will contain an Activity Tab, a Flagged Tab, and an Accounts Tab. The parent portal you create will provide you additional information on your student’s online activity.

If you do not wish to receive that weekly email from Securly, simply click on the unsubscribe button in the bottom left corner of the email.

Updated Immunization Requirements

To better align with the national vaccine recommendations, the state of Wisconsin has recently updated the immunization requirements for school entry. These changes are effective for the 2024-2025 school year and will impact all students entering 12th grade. Please follow this link to see the Immunization Changes.

Please note that all students entering 12th grade will need the Meningococcal vaccination. Due to the timing of these changes, current students will only need 1 dose of the Meningococcal vaccination prior to the first day of the school year. As most pediatricians have been made aware of this upcoming change and follow the state's immunization schedule, your student may have already received this vaccination. Please check with your physician to see if your student has been immunized.

As a reminder, Wisconsin law requires parents/guardians to provide updated records on their student's immunizations. To update us on your student's immunization or waiver status, please fill out the Wisconsin Immunization Record Form. To meet compliance requirements a student needs to have received the vaccination OR a family can sign a waiver to exempt their student from this requirement. Both options are included on the Immunization Record form. Please complete either steps 2 and 5 of this form for vaccination status OR complete the waiver section in Step 4. Your signature in step 5 is required for both options. Students must be in compliance with the required immunizations on the first day of school.

Please direct any questions on the new immunization schedule to your student's physician or the Waukesha County Public Health Department.

PARENT COMMUNICATION UPDATES

We are excited to announce two new communication features we want to share with our AHS families:

Emergency Text Messaging System

To receive our emergency text messages, please use your phone to opt in and text "yes" to the number 67587.
- If you have another child in one of our feeder districts, you may receive a message that you are already enrolled.
- If you do not opt in, we will do our best to use email and social media for communications as soon as possible.

Changes to Attendance/Absence Procedures for Parents

In an effort to create an easier and more efficient process for families to enter absences, AHS will be transitioning to using the Parent Access to Skyward for submitting student attendance. We still accept phone messages but it is our hope that the Skyward App becomes the main method of absence notification.

1. If you select “other” please enter comments on the reason

If you want siblings to be absent on the same time and day, click the green yes by that child’s name

Expectation Reminders

With the start of the school year, we wanted to share a few expectations that we feel are important to review before school begins. The slides linked below will also be shared with all students on the first day of school in their Resource Period. Arrowhead High School

Non-Arrowhead High School Sponsored Event or Activity Absence Exception Request

Linked here you will find the application forms to be completed by you and your child relating to a request to exempt absences when participating in non-Arrowhead High School sponsored events or activities. Due to the fact that many of these events/activities take place outside of Hartland as well as outside of Wisconsin, we have found that students who participate in these tend to miss a larger number of days than students who are participating in an event/activity sponsored by AHS. Please note that the school only has the authority to excuse these absences should it be identified as a gifted or talented opportunity. However, this information does help as our administration works through absences with our families.

Parents may excuse their students who miss school for a non-Arrowhead Sponsored Event as long as they are within the 10 days of absence allotted by the State of Wisconsin. Once the 10 days are met, students are marked as unexcused. An exemption in the missed day(s) can be granted if the student qualifies based on the application form linked above and team decision. An exemption means the absence does not count towards those 10 days.

AHS FUNDRAISING

AHS Programs Financial Support

School funding is always a challenging world to navigate. Each year, schools see a set of opportunities with costs associated with them that are unable to be funded by the current state funding and the AHS budget. We often have families with the means to support such opportunities who have expressed that there isn't an avenue to be made aware or to donate directly to a need. Each newsletter, we will list opportunities for our community to consider supporting. There is never an expectation, only an appreciation for considering.

Current Considerations

The Warhawk Rise Program - We are still looking for a committed benefactor who would like to support this great event! A new program we are developing at AHS that will recognize any student who has improved their grade point average by 1.0 or better from one semester to the next. (EX: from a 2.5 Fall semester to a 3.5 Spring semester) This is a significant achievement by students who put in great efforts toward success that may not always receive the recognition they deserve. The annual cost of this program runs about $4,000 each year and includes a semi-formal celebration brunch with their families invited and and gift bags recognizing their efforts. Arrowhead Scholarship Fund - This amazing program provides an incredible amount of scholarships each year thanks to the generosity of our community. Families and companies have the ability to provide direction as to how their scholarship would be decided and awarded. Please see the ASF Donor Webpage for more information!
