Happy June! Cliché, but accurate- We are always shocked at how quickly the year went.

We are excited to see June arrive, providing our students a well-earned and necessary summer break. As we prepare for summer, there is an undeniable cloud over schools right now with the recent tragedy at Uvalde. There is no bright spot from this event. We can only hope it helps us all gain perspective on the often trivial and petty concerns we expend our energies on and remind us all to be good humans and show care for one another.

The last few days are full of great events. Often bittersweet for the parents of our seniors. We are all happy and proud for our students who reach graduation this Saturday, but those feelings are often laced with a bit of melancholy as we reflect on how their first day of kindergarten seems like yesterday.

As we celebrate the end of the year and graduation, we also want to recognize our arts, activities, and athletic teams. Many of our athletes are competing for the final time or representing our school in the state competition. Many clubs and activities meeting for the last time and reflecting on the impact they've had on the school. Our students in the arts are creating their last projects or performing for the last tie on our stage. We wish the best of luck to all still creating or competing!

Welcome to June. We hope you can all join us in celebrating this year as we stepped out from the shadow of last year, and all that students, staff, and community have accomplished.

Semester Exam STRESS RELIEF!

Faculty Finals Flapjacks ~ NEW to AHS and to help kick off final exams, our faculty will be flipping flapjacks for our students. We will do this for seniors the evening of June 1 (night before exams) from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Vandertie Commons at North Campus. We will do the same for Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors the evening before their finals on June 7th, also from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Vandertie Commons at North campus.
Therapy Dogs ~ We will continue with our tradition of having licensed therapy dogs at both campuses during final exams June 8 - 10. Each dog comes with its trainer/owner and they are fully licensed and insured. Students can visit them at either library on both campuses.
Yoga ~ We have a generous Arrowhead parent who is a physical therapist with certifications in yoga and meditation who has offered to do a FREE 60 minute yoga session after school on the Tuesday, June 7th before finals. This will be held at 2:45 pm in the South Campus Library, Lab A. Students have been emailed the signup sheet for this opportunity as well as it being linked here!

Quick Reminders

Students are not required to attend during their scheduled study hall.
Juniors who completed their exams during the senior exams times are still expected to attend their scheduled exam time.
Students who are absent need to connect with their teachers and arrange a time to complete their exam.

SENIOR CAR PARADE

On Saturday, June 4th at 10:30am, Arrowhead will be hosting the third Annual Graduation Car Parade. The graduating class of 2022 will be guests of honor in a car parade that will travel throughout the district with the purpose of celebrating their accomplishments.

The seniors must be driven by another adult over a 22 mile route (step by step route \directions) where the community can cheer them on and recognize the class as a whole. In an effort to unify the class and create a greater celebration, we will have all seniors start at North campus in parking lot E (outside Door 1) or parking lot F (outside Doors 4-6). This will allow all students to travel as one as opposed to the seven separate starts used in the past. Cars will be released at approximately 10:30 making their way through the route.

Graduates will not be able to drive in the parade so they can be visible to the parade watchers and allow a parent or older sibling to pay attention to the road. The graduates and their driver need to be at AHS by 10:00 in order to line up properly for the 10:30 start of the parade. You are encouraged to decorate your car to celebrate your graduation from Arrowhead High School. We hope our families line the streets and show their appreciation for our graduates!

CLASS OF 2022 GRADUATION

It is a pleasure to communicate with you as your senior student completes the requirements leading to high school graduation. This is an exciting time of year.

We will celebrate the graduation of the Arrowhead Senior Class of 2022 on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 7:30 pm. Commencement will be held outdoors in the football stadium. There are no tickets for guests of the graduates and no limit to the number of guests per graduate. There is seating available for elderly and handicap attendees on the football field next to our students, and ramps behind the stadium bleachers that lead to reserved seats in the front rows of the bleachers. Staff will be in the area to assist as needed. For those who can’t make it to the ceremony, it can be live streamed at this link.

Graduates should plan to arrive at Arrowhead no later than 6:30 p.m. Best to arrive at school at 6;00 and be in your assigned room by 6:30. Linked here are the room assignments for the graduates. If you forget your room we will have staff in the lobby to assist. Gates open at 6:00 pm. Inclement weather may cause us to move the start of graduation to an earlier or later time on Saturday, or postpone until Sunday, June 5 starting at 1:30 p.m. If held on Sunday, graduates should plan to arrive at Arrowhead no later than 12:30 p.m. If weather is threatening, please monitor emails for a Skylert message Saturday morning.

This event is the culmination of 13 years of hard work and dedication to the education process. Participation in the cap and gown ceremony is an important part of commencement. It is an event rich in tradition and of great meaning to the District, our families, and our community.

We need to remind you that participation by seniors in end-of-year pranks or other disruptive behavior will jeopardize the seniors' participation in the graduation ceremony, including the wearing of the cap and gown and the senior lock-in party on June 3. Students not allowed to participate in graduation and the senior party due to behavior issues will not receive a refund. Please review the Graduation Ceremony Commitment Agreement signed by you and your senior. Please help our students make positive decisions as they celebrate the end of their great AHS careers.

We're hopeful all students can accept their responsibilities in a mature fashion and participate in the graduation ceremony. However, it is not necessary to take part in the ceremony to receive the diploma. Students electing not to participate in the ceremony, along with students participating in the ceremony, may pick up their diploma at the high school on June 8, 9 or 10, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Only students meeting all graduation requirements will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. For those students not meeting graduation requirements, parents will be notified by June 3. We hope such calls will not be necessary, but complete academic requirements must be met before the students can participate in graduation and receive their diploma. All fees and fines must be paid prior to Friday, June 3 as well.

Finally, we would like to personally congratulate graduates and parents and express our sincere appreciation on behalf of our faculty for your help in what we believe is an educational partnership. Everyone wants the graduation to be a pleasant and memorable time. With the cooperation of the graduates, parents, and the school, the 2022 graduation ceremony will be an event in which we all can be proud.

AFTER GRADUATION TRAFFIC RELEASE

In years past, traffic departing from the ceremony has created significant issues and oftentimes unsafe traffic flow. To help mitigate these issues, the Waukesha County Police have provided traffic routes leaving the ceremony. Please take a look at the following document as the route you will need to take to return home may create a preferred parking lot for you and your family for the easiest exit.

GRADUATION CEREMONY REMINDERS

Arrive to school by 6:00 pm and be in your assigned room NO LATER than 6:30 pm
\Dress clothes worn under gowns, no shorts
The white "collar" is not worn
A tie or bow tie must be worn with a dress shirt
Dress shoes worn with gown, no tennis shoes or flip flops
No altering of the cap or gown is allowed
Honor cords will be given out at graduation before the ceremony

FOUR THINGS TO DO BEFORE LEAVING ARROWHEAD

Before saying goodbye to Arrowhead, there are 4 things seniors should do before walking across the stage and starting their post-secondary life.

Return Arrowhead materials and clean out lockers. All lockers must be cleared out by the last day of school. For seniors, that is Friday, June 3, and for all other students it is June 10 at the end of the school day. Items left in lockers after that time will be disposed of or donated. Books and other materials should be returned to the appropriate areas during bookroom and/or library hours to avoid charges
Pay any fines. Fines are due now for seniors. That should not stop all students from checking the front office and library for fees and fines owned.
What are the student fees and fines? The front office keeps track of various fees (course, food service, textbook, and athletics) and the library keeps track of book and computer equipment fees. All students have received an email with outstanding library fines and materials. Senior excess balances will be automatically transferred to a younger sibling if possible or refunded later in the summer. All other student balances will carry over to the following school year.
Create a personal email account. If Arrowhead Gmail is a seniors only email account, they should create a personal account now. In creating that account, make sure to use real name, rather than nickname, if possible. Seniors will need to create a personal Google account before completing step 4.
Create a copy of Arrowhead school work that would like to be kept, both electronic and otherwise. Students may have work saved in several different spaces. Senior accounts will be deleted July 1.
1. Download and save any files from Arrowhead servers at school or through the student resources area, LaunchPad, found on the school website. Once logged in to LaunchPad, you will find the icon for files (looks like a cloud) at the bottom of the screen. From there you can download one file at a time. If you have a lot of server files, you should login to an Arrowhead computer. That way you will be able to download all files at one time to save to a personal Google account or USB drive.
2. Download or transfer any Arrowhead Google files and email messages. Follow the instructions and/or watch the video to download or transfer files to another Google account. Make sure you own these files. If you have view only rights to shared files, you will need to make your own copy. Also, make sure you ask the file owner for permission.

CELEBRATIONS!

WIND ENSEMBLE PLAYS AT CARNEGIE HALL

Congratulations to the Mr. Jacob Polancich and the AHS Wind Ensemble who performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the New York “Sounds of Spring” Festival on March 29! The students played their hearts out and performed the world premiere of Alec Schumacker's newest work Ode to Sisyphus. Bravo to the other performing groups on the program Permonik Choir Karvina (Karviná, Czech Republic), Akademos HS Choir (Lublin, Poland), Susan E Wagner HS Concert Chorus and Wind Symphony (Staten Island, New York, USA)

A big THANK YOU goes out to parent chaperones Brian, Melissa, Scott, Dawn, Tammy, Jen, and Cynthia, school nurse Katie Thompson, and all others who helped make this opportunity a reality!

On Monday, May 9th, Arrowhead's National Honor Society inducted 116 new members to their chapter. These students were selected for their outstanding commitment to Leadership, Character, Service, and Scholarship.

Engineering Design and Development (EDD) Showcase

What was it?

Our next generation of successful scientists and engineers need your input! Engineering Design and Development students have spent the year innovating and inventing. Students take ownership of their interests, explore pressing issues and problems that our world faces every day, and stretch their creativity in an attempt to design and implement powerful solutions. Student prototypes are complete and ready for feedback. We need your help! Please come in and let these students see what you think. Talk with any group you’d like. See what inspired their creation.

How did you help?

By attending, you provided encouragement and opportunities for our future scientists, engineers, and manufacturing students to grow and succeed. We asked that you to give our EDD innovators honest feedback and judge/vote. We asked that you cast one vote for each of the 4 categories: Most Profitable, Most Unique, Most Innovative and Most Likely to Buy. Prizes were awarded to whichever group received the most votes in each category. Your comments helped our students decide their next steps.

Who attended?

Anyone interested in seeing what AHS engineering is all about. Also local employers who wanted to get a gauge on future employees... ALL were welcome!

GFWC Woman’s Club of Pewaukee Writing Contest Winners

Each year the GFWC Woman’s Club of Pewaukee sponsors a writing contest for students from kindergarten through 12th grade in two categories: short story and poetry.

In the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade category are two students from Arrowhead Union High School. Hope Stiverson (senior) is the winner in the short story category with a story entitled “Love and Loss.” In the poetry category the winner is Ana Casper’s (senior) poem “Keyhole Memories.” The students’ work was submitted by their English teacher, Elizabeth Jorgensen. All three students received a $25 gift card from the GFWC Woman’s Club of Pewaukee.

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Pewaukee is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs – Wisconsin. The GFWC Woman’s Club of Pewaukee has been serving the Greater Pewaukee area since 1904 for specific attention to education and libraries, environment, civic outreach, health and wellness, arts and culture. GFWC-WI is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.

Each year the organization sponsors a writing contest for the calendar year. Details for the 2022 contest are posted on the club’s website: www.womansclubofpewaukee.com. All students in the greater Pewaukee area are encouraged to submit entries from kindergarten through 12th grade.

WAUKESHA COUNTY BUSINESS ALLIANCE

SCHOOLS 2 SKILLS

Tom Whelan arranged this field trip with our Engineering and Manufacturing students. We have been doing this for the past 10 years and this year we had one in the fall and now one in the spring. There were 40 students who attended this spring trip. Students visited Sussex IM, Waukesha County Technical College and Versevo Inc. (Hartland). This trip was a full day for students allowing time for tours and questions.

BASEBALL

AHS clinches C8 title with a record of 15-1 in conference and 17-4 overall

SOFTBALL

Arrowhead’s No. 6 ranked girls softball team finish the season 20-1. They are conference champs. The team is strong in hitting, pitching and defense.

They are Regional Champs and the #1 seed in their sectional

Girls Soccer

Record of 8-5-1. Ranked 6th in our sectional tournament. They start tournament play on Tuesday May 31. Get 'em, Warhawks!

Boys Golf

Finished 2nd in the Conference! Qualified for sectionals and placed second with a score of 319 points! Arrowhead’s Bode King took individual honors by shooting an even-par score of 72.

Boys Tennis

Advanced all 7 players in singles and doubles to sectionals. The team fell to Middleton by 2 pointes, although Number 1 and Number 2 doubles teams qualified for state with the possibility of others as extra qualifiers!

Girls Track & Field

The girls were runner up at Regionals and qualified several athletes for Sectionals. Again, finished runner up at Sectionals with 13 athletes moving on to State! Rachel Kleinhans, Sophomore, set a new school record in the 100 hurdles at 14.90

Boys Track & Field

The team won Regionals qualifying several athletes for Sectionals and won Sectionals! 19 athletes are State bound and Nick Blatik, Senior, set a new school record in the discus, at 162-2

AHS SAFETY PRACTICES

In the wake of the tragedy and Robb Elementary in Texas, we wanted to re-share some of the safety measures we have in place at AHS. The following information was shared after the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. We are constantly reviewing our practices and looking at ways to improve while creating the most optimal learning environment for our students.

The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance. Our School Safety Team members regularly work with emergency response experts/law authority to help us proactively plan for emergencies. If you have any questions regarding the following school safety information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

School Safety Drills: Per Wisconsin law, schools must hold monthly safety drills including fire drills and at least one other emergency drill during each school year. At Arrowhead, our typical safety drill schedule has included at least seven fire drills, one tornado drill and one school violence drill.

Safety Protocols: Arrowhead has many proactive and reactive safety protocols in place. These include, but are not limited to:

a full-time police resource officer (armed),
locked exterior doors, with monitoring by Welcome Center personnel
staffed welcome centers/lobbies,
Raptor, online visitor background-check system utilized when any visitors come into either school building,
ability to quickly lock all classroom and other relevant doors, from within the room
200+ indoor and outdoor security cameras throughout campus,
shatter-resistant film on identified doors/windows as required by WI Dept. of Justice school safety grants,
a standing school safety team and a comprehensive crisis response plan,
threat assessment protocols,
lock-down emergency exercises with students and staff,
school safety drills including violent intruder drills, including training for staff and students,
emergency materials packet in each classroom including reminder directions for ALICE (Alert, Lock-down, Inform, Counter, Evacuate),
a 24-hour internet network filtering and monitoring program (Securly),
mental health personnel and resources/references to share with students, staff and parents,
positive school culture,
hand radios and multi-location broadcast public address (PA) system, and
regular collaboration with law enforcement authorities.

We will continue to work with law enforcement and local safety experts to review our efforts and work with our students each year to understand our safety protocols and how to best respond to any safety incident that may arise.
