FROM THE DESK OF:  Adam Kurth, High School Principal

The final newsletter of 2021!  Cheers to an amazing 2022 for all of our AHS family.

We are very appreciative of families who have reached out over the past few weeks and helped us stay informed of social media concerns both locally and nationally.  We all know that the influence and prevalence of social media trends and negative use is an evolving part of our young culture.  As we continue to work with our students on making positive choices and respecting each other in every interaction, we ask that you have conversations at home to help message the impact of their words and actions.  Through our student surveys, we know that an overwhelming majority of the negative interactions on social media are occurring at night and away from the school setting when students find idle time.  That time is about to increase with the holiday break. There is no simple solution, but a unified effort of families and the school can help to minimize the negative impact locally.  Thank you for your partnership and support.

Happy our students, staff, and families have the Holiday Break.  It has been a very busy first few months of school and we are extremely proud of our students and staff for navigating still uncommon circumstances with grace and success.  Schools and school years are never perfect which is part of the beauty of it all as it helps us all to be patient, understanding, tolerant, flexible, and to grow.  Sometimes challenging with the world news that constantly inundates us with social issues, but this time of year is a great reminder to have gratitude for the great school community we are in.  We have incredible students, staff, families, and community members who together create a place we are fortunate to be, work, and learn.  We hope that all of our families have a restful and enjoyable winter break.

From the entire AHS staff, have a wonderful break, and Happy Holidays.

Academic and Career Exploration  (ACE) happens in various ways throughout the year.  On December 8,  we held an extended third hour where students considered options and steps in course planning and selection that align to their College and/or Career Plans.

Linked in this message are the lessons where students were asked to discuss, review, and reflect on academic and career goals. These lessons can also be found on the AHS website under Counseling and Academic and Career Exploration.
