FROM THE DESK OF:  Adam Kurth, Principal

25 school days remain before students are home for the summer and enjoying the company of their parents and families!

We're happy to announce that Arrowhead High School Ranked #15 in Wisconsin and #594 nationally by US News and World Report.  These awards are never the goal of any work at a school, but they are the outcomes of the efforts of students, staff, and community.  Congrats to all for the great recognition.

That recognition also aligns perfectly with Teacher Appreciation Week!  We are fortunate to have some of the best teachers around.  Please consider sending an email or a note to any of our staff who have had a positive impact on your family.

May is an energetic and extremely busy month with AP exams, Prom, awards nights, final exam preparation, and spring sports and activities.  It all leads up to our graduation ceremony for our senior class on June 4th.  We look forward to a strong finish to the school year and celebrating our students and all that they have accomplished.

We'll be sharing an 'end of year' newsletter just before the Memorial Day break. We hope everyone has a great May.

CLASS OF 2022 GRADUATION

It is a pleasure to communicate with you as your senior student completes the requirements leading to high school graduation. This is an exciting time of year.

We will celebrate the graduation of the Arrowhead Senior Class of 2022 on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 7:30 pm. Commencement will be held outdoors in the football stadium. There are no tickets for guests of the graduates and no limit to the number of guests per graduate. Graduates should plan to arrive at Arrowhead no later than 6:30 p.m. Inclement weather may cause us to move the start of graduation to an earlier time on Saturday or postpone until Sunday, June 5 starting at 1:30 p.m. If held on Sunday, graduates should plan to arrive at Arrowhead no later than 12:30 p.m. If weather is threatening, please monitor emails for a Skylert message Saturday morning.

This event is the culmination of 13 years of hard work and dedication to the education process. Participation in the cap and gown ceremony is an important part of commencement. It is an event rich in tradition and of great meaning to the District.

We need to remind you that participation by seniors in end-of-year pranks or other disruptive behavior will jeopardize the seniors' participation in the graduation ceremony, including the wearing of the cap and gown and the senior lock-in party on June 3.  Students not allowed to participate in graduation and the senior party due to behavior issues will not receive a refund.

We're hopeful all students can accept their responsibilities in a mature fashion and participate in the graduation ceremony.  However, it is not necessary to take part in the ceremony to receive the diploma.  Students electing not to participate in the ceremony, along with students participating in the ceremony, may pick up their diploma at the high school on June 8, 9 or 10, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Only students meeting all graduation requirements will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.  For those students not meeting graduation requirements, parents will be notified by June 3. We hope such calls will not be necessary, but complete academic requirements must be met before the students can participate in graduation and receive their diploma.  All fees and fines must be paid prior to Friday, June 3 as well.

Finally, we would like to personally congratulate graduates and parents and express our sincere appreciation on behalf of our faculty for your help in what we believe is an educational partnership.  Everyone wants the graduation to be a pleasant and memorable time. With the cooperation of the graduates, parents, and the school, the 2022 graduation ceremony will be an event in which we all can be proud.

Anti-Bullying Video Winners

This year, AHS began a new effort and tradition of providing venue for students to share a message of anti-bullying with their peers through a video competition.  The competition has a defined criteria for students to follow and the winners were treated to prizes such as a reserved parking spot, pizza party, or treat from our school store or coffee shop.  This activity served as another effort toward creating a shared respect and empathy amongst our student body.

1st Place Video - Alaina Raddatz, Shawn Gregg, Andrew Michalowski, Connor Lestina, Katherine Schoeppel and Matthew Schmieding

2nd Place Video - Siya Sinha

3rd Place Video - Sydney Flesch, Devyn Meister and Austin Boesl

Thank you to all who supported our marketing students for the DECA 2022 International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, GA.  They returned from a six day trip safe, sound, and represented our school  "The Arrowhead Way".  Kyle Staus, Owen Ritter, and Cara Wellentin made it to finals in the SBE (Small Business Enterprise) event resulting in a top 20 out of 200+ participants from throughout the world.  Also, Kyle Staus earned a $2,000 scholarship from the Marriott Foundation and our DECA Chapter was recognized as one of the top twenty chapters in the world.

The twenty-two marketing students had to qualify by making it through district and state levels which is an accomplishment already.

Thanks again for all your help and making this a great experience for our kids.  You would be proud of how we represented Arrowhead with over 17,000 students from throughout the world.

Congratulations to these students on their achievement in the 67th Annual DSSV German Essay Contest and the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) National Contest. This year 584 students participated in the AATG test and 392 essays were submitted. DSSV will be awarding approximately $30,000 in cash prizes. AATG allowed Wisconsin to nominate four students for study trips to Germany, based on the number of test participants.

Parent Support &  Info

This is AP Week!

Just a snapshot of the two-week testing schedule for any families with students taking AP tests.

Good luck to all!

'Nerf Wars' has returned and many AHS students are participating

'Nerf Wars', involves the use of toy weapons, in which players have "shootouts" with other players. This activity often occurs outside in a public setting. Unfortunately, many of those participating tend to push boundaries that can result in a law enforcement response. Law enforcement response is likely to occur after a citizen complaint regarding the following, often criminal, violations: trespassing, disorderly conduct, battery, public nudity, noise complaints, car accidents, the blocking of a driveway, etc.

In addition, a toy weapon, if altered to be perceived as a real weapon, could result in law enforcement officers using deadly force.

Depending on the citizen complaint and circumstance, law enforcement response can/will result in a citation, criminal charge referral, and/or arrest. I highly encourage all parents/guardians to have a conversation regarding the appropriate use of 'toy weapons' in a public setting. 'Nerf Wars' can be a fun, harmless activity for high school students.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or your local law enforcement agency.
